Anyone else’s period all over the place lately?

I’ve always been like clockwork but the last three months I just don’t know what’s going on. I skipped a period which has never happened before, this month I’m just having spotting. What has prompted me to ask here is my sister said she is in a WhatsApp group with 14 other women who she used to go to Pilates with and 3/4 of them said their cycles are all over the place too. Then my next door neighbour who is post menopausal said she had a bleed for the first time in almost 4 years! So I was curious if any other women have had any irregularities?

Mine are all over the place - it started last year after I had suspected covid. 3 week long periods or missing periods. I was sent for an ultrasound and transvaginal scan plus bloods as my GP was so concerned at the change.

This was pre vaccine.

Since I had the vaccine they've been back to normal - every 4 weeks and 2 days long.

My period has changed, noticed it from the start of this year. I had medical management for MMC in January, covid in February. Not had the vaccine. Period used to be 5-6 days of medium flow bleeding. Now it is 3-4 day of spotting then 3 days of constant bleeding, feels like it pours of of me. One night time pad used to last me all night now I'm up at least 3 times a night and it is flooded. I have to change pads every 2 hours throughout the day. Spoke to GP about it and he said to monitor it for 12 weeks and get back in contact.

Missed period when I had covid, but is likely to do with MMC

Nonmaquillee · 23/04/2021 22:56

Peri here, so periods all over the place is the new normal (two days of brown smudge since last November) so I doubt it has anything to do with anything other than my age (almost 50).

ThreeB · 23/04/2021 22:58

Mine are all over the place and have been since I had COVID in August. I don't know if I'm coming or going and have resorted to a period tracking app just so I can make sense of things.

Throughabushbackwards · 23/04/2021 22:58

I haven't had a normal period since I had COVID in March 2020.

BareGrylls · 23/04/2021 23:01

. It simply denies there is a method by which the vaccines could alter menstruation and therefore says it isn’t happening. It clearly is happening and we don’t know why and at least there will be a study into it
Actually I must have read it differently to you as I thought it gave some reasonable explanations for why periods might be affected. For example that a fever from any cause can disrupt the cycle.

PicsInRed · 23/04/2021 23:14

Its been very long known that stress affects periods during times of great danger and uncertainly. A pandemic, financial disaster, death and forced lockdown collectively qualifies as "danger and uncertainty".

If we had the data, we'd probably see similar in the early 1940s.

DiptyqueandDiamonds · 23/04/2021 23:24

Yes. Used to be every 28 days. Now it’s 26 days or 35 days. I’ve actually lost track. Mine is stress related though. 37 and no vaccine.

Zeev · 23/04/2021 23:42

I think it's the stress. We live in a hugely stressful situation and even if we're kind of "used" to it, our minds and bodies are still stressed. My cycle has been wonky ever since the lockdowns started.

ViciousJackdaw · 24/04/2021 00:28

Thinking about it, I've got a chronic illness and used to miss a period once or twice a year. The doc told me that if I was having a flare up at the exact point when I was about to release an egg, the brain basically says 'Hold on ovaries, she's in too much pain for all this, wait until next month'.

Perhaps, if we have had either Covid or the vaccine at that moment, the body knows something is not right and suspends usual service? Whatever it is, it's really very interesting. I'll look forward to hearing more about this.

Chimboo · 24/04/2021 00:28

Yes!!! Earlier and earlier. Last one came at 24 days and lasted an entire week, heavy every day. I have always been a clockwork 28 day cycle with four days of flow. I had Covid March 2020 and that had no effect on my periods at the time, and I’m not vaccinated either. Bizarre.

Lesserspottedmama · 24/04/2021 11:32

Apparently it’s all over Instagram as well, it is a lot of women who are experiencing this. I’m finding it a little disconcerting, hope it settles down again soon.

@LesserspottedmamaThat is really strange...I assumed mine was just the affects of long covid as many women have similar, had no idea others who felt well were experiencing the same 🤷🏻‍♀️

Flopseemsstoned · 24/04/2021 14:09

@Lesserspottedmama Where is it on Instagram please? I’ll take a look

Tuliptuliptulip · 24/04/2021 14:17

I had the AZ vaccine and my period was a week early which has never happened before. I've been very regular for years now so it was a surprise!

I wonder if there is a link between long covid and period disruption if people could have had covid with few or no symptoms, and have a kind of asymptomatic long covid?

I think stress is a definate factor too, one of the few times in my life when my period was very late was going through a very stressful experience, and the period only came when the stress was lifted.

Okbye · 24/04/2021 14:25

I’ve had 1 dose of Pfizer in early March. I’m on the Pill and randomly (very annoyingly!) got my period 2 weeks early. I’m on day 10 of bleeding now although it is starting to slow. But definitely longer than my ‘normal’ bleeds.
No sickness, no antibiotics etc and I haven’t missed any pills, take them at the same time daily so no idea why I’ve randomly come on. It’s very odd.

I just wonder if I’ll get another period next week in my pill free days or not?! 😳 Hope this doesn’t completely mess up my cycle! 😬
