To think they are creating an 'us and them' atmosphere at my workplace

Been wfh since covid began. We work in a small office for the amount of people. Over the last year we were told changes were being made to make it safer.

Anyway, they have now decided to have a workplace day out at the pub! Upwards of 30+ people invited and it is against the rules for more than a small group to meet here. Most of us arent vaccinated.

Myself & 2 other colleagues have spoken out saying we feel uncomfortable and wont be attending. So now less than half of us, but still a sizeable number, have signed up & I am getting a real 'us and them' vibe about it. They are applying some pressure on those who havent signed up yet.

I think they should have waited until it was safe for all of us. We havent even had a risk assessment for going back to the office (although we are told we will be going back in June). AIBU?

None of this makes sense. You can't book an indoor venue at the moment.

I assume they'll book 5 tables of 6, and it's up to the pub to make sure people aren't switching tables. I think if you're going to not attend you have to just make your peace with that - I would be fine with it.

That's what I was thinking Hmm unless it's a pub with a marquee type set up?!

It’s always unreasonable to put pressure on people to attend work social events if they don’t want to. But YABVU to expect everyone else to wait until you feel comfortable.

Onairjunkie · 23/04/2021 14:22

I know this will get me heartily told off but I am so bored with threads like these, agonising over fucking Covid. So fucking bored with all of them. So bored in fact I felt compelled to say so.

If you don’t want to go just don’t go. And if you feel bullied for not going, talk to HR. What else is there to say?

And for the poster suggesting tipping off the Daily Mail, I can’t tell if you’re serious or on a wind-up.

Washimal · 23/04/2021 14:27

If it’s against rules you could make an anonymous tip off to a local paper / the daily mail / police / council.

Yes, and don't forget to log it with 101 Grin

TebayServices · 23/04/2021 16:53

There are no indoor venues open, so that solves that problem.

I despair of Covigilantes too but sorry this is next level law breaking.

If the pub finds out that the group are all together they will chuck everyone out or call the police.

Such stupidly deserves to be punished, so I wouldn’t think badly of anyone sobbing them in.
