To think you don’t put a plaster

Over a splinter?

DD came home today with a plaster on her finger, she had a large, very noticeable wood splinter from the wooden slide at school and the teacher had just put a plaster over it.

By the time she got home it was very painful and the plaster had pushed thensplinter deeper into under the skin, it was extremely difficult and painful to remove.

I’m in two minds whether to mention it tomorrow.

Calpol syringe over the splinter or mag sulph paste with a plaster over it will draw it out.

Better the teacher covered it than left it uncovered.

Had this with DD last week. They'd put a plaster on. Didn't make it any worse or any better. Pretty standard I would think given that they're not allowed to remove splinters.

I’ve had to remove a splinter as we were one day into an 8 night trip. However, a normal school day I’d put a plaster on.

I can't remember the reason why, but at our work we're not allowed to remove them. I don't know if this is a weird quirk of my workplace or standard in all schools though.

When I was little I remember being told ointment and a plaster will draw it out, I was never sure if this was true or not but based on these two anecdotes I'd have probably stuck a plaster on it or told your kid to wrap a wet paper towel around it!

Don't know if it's the same now OP as been a few years for me but DC2 had a plaster put round their splitter. The staff said they weren't allowed to take it out.

We aren’t allowed to try to remove splinters unless they are really sticking out proud of the skin. We would usually put a plate on to avoid any more dirt getting in after cleaning with a medical wipe.

We used to put honey or sugar on a plaster over the splinter and that would draw it out
