Sweet boxes on Facebook?! 🤢

I’m a member on a local Facebook buy swap group and it’s constantly spammed with people selling pizza boxes filled with sweets often photographed on a fluffy dog hair infested rug. Does anyone else see them? Does anyone even buy them? The same with the strawberries dipped in chocolate that look absolutely disgusting are another thing I see a lot. What delights do you see on your FB groups?

@idrinkchocolatemilk

What an awful fucking thread.
Couldn't agree more. Sneering and snobby.

@idrinkchocolatemilk

What an awful fucking thread.
Why? There's zero talent in ripping people off.
ConsuelaHammock · 22/04/2021 20:28

That ‘graze ‘ table reminds me of a scene from a movie . The platform! 😳

Mummy1608 · 22/04/2021 20:28

@YoniAndGuy

Yep these are everywhere. Totally grim.

As an aside, whoever thought inventing the word 'cakesickle' could possibly be a good thing? Coming up with a cutesy cockapoo type word for a foodstuff and managing to end up having the word 'cake' right next to the word 'sick'

Winner

Popsicake surely preferable lol
osbertthesyrianhamster · 22/04/2021 20:28

@LadyWhistledownsQuill

I love it when people quadruple the price of some pastries and artfully display it in their garden bush
That's a good one! Twenty quid for THAT?!
Boomchicka · 22/04/2021 20:31

Fb for sale or swap groups are a different planet!!

Who buys their tea off fb??

sunflowersandbuttercups · 22/04/2021 20:34

If they're out of the packaging (which many appear to be), then they'll go stale/soft if not eaten quickly.

To be fair, you could just put them in an airtight container if you want to keep them fresh.

Recycledblonde · 22/04/2021 21:05

I do dislike all these random sweet sellers but more from a dislike of encouraging people to eat more and more sugar than hygiene. I do find it strange that people have a horror of unloved hands touching food, gloves are no more sanitary than properly washed hands and unless you change them every two minutes will spread just as many germs as non gloved hands.

GreenSlide · 22/04/2021 21:09

Just had a look, there do look to be some nice ones near me from catering companies, far too expensive for cheese and breadsticks etc though.

This one does not look appetising.

Sleepdeprivedmama1 · 22/04/2021 21:11

I've seen loads of cakes, I liked the look of one for my daughters birthday and asked for the hygiene certificate - she said she didn't have one so I left it

Lots of home made meals, I see a lady selling homemade Indian meals a lot.

Afternoon tea, sweet boxes and "indulgent" chocolate that looks manky but each to their own, clearly a market for it.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 22/04/2021 21:19

@y0rkier0se - it literally looks like a turd in a box. Who thinks up shit like this?

MammaSchwifty · 22/04/2021 21:20

@GreenSlide, christ those eggs look to have been cooked in a nuclear reactor.

@y0rkier0se, that dog is weirdly impressive and simultaneous slightly off-putting

Hangingover · 22/04/2021 21:22

I've always wanted to sell my homemade kimchi Facebook but I'm unclear at what point it becomes a biohazard Grin

I’d buy it! We all need more Kimchi in our lives!
powershowerforanhour · 22/04/2021 21:37

Those wedding graze tables! I know they're meant to look all artfully cornucopia-ish and like a painting but fuck sake. I consider myself omnivorous and a bit of a dirty bastard with pretty much zero food or anxiety issues but- yuck. Half of it's going to fall off and get tramped into the floor, and the other half is going to be throughly dug through by the grubby mitts of boozed up fellas who haven't washed their hands after going for a pish, and the painted fake nails harbouring god knows what of the women. The poor vegetarians and vegans have to eat slices of fruit tasting of salami and anyone allergic to nuts might as well just leave the building. Gross gross gross. Get plates, tongs and a bit of restraint!

Thepennyhasdroppedq · 22/04/2021 21:39

I have a woman on my fb that sells this. She charges £7 for sweets that are a penny each to buy, there is around 20 sweets in a box.

Twinkie01 · 22/04/2021 21:39

You need a food hygiene certificate of at least 5 for me to buy anything off of anyone. Looking at you soda bread lady with your paltry 2.

Amdone123 · 22/04/2021 21:47

Oh, the chocolate mousse dog.
And we have a winner !!

This is very true. And when people wear gloves they tend to change them less often than they would wash their hands during food prep.
AntiHop · 22/04/2021 21:54

@y0rkier0se that dog looks like it's freshly born!

TableFlowerss · 22/04/2021 21:57

@rooarsome

Same with the afternoon teas. I saw one recently which was a couple of butties with a bit of spread, half a sausage roll each, 2 cheap looking scones and a few grapes and crisps scattered on for £15.
🤣 made me laugh
Sillysandy · 22/04/2021 22:00

I cannot stop laughing at this thread. I've just realised I am the person buying all this. I didn't realise it was such a huge craze. I moved house about a year ago and thought it was that there was a lot of local creatives / entrepreneurs.

My boyfriend is always losing the head with me for buying utter rubbish from people living in the neighbourhood - masks that don't stay on, 'personalised' sanitiser gel bottles that leak, cupcake mother's Day bouquets etc.

Over Easter I ordered a vegan gluten free cake based on a photo of a cake which was basically a work of art with amazing handcrafted sugar flowers on top. I had to go to a carpark to meet her at the agreed time, waited nearly an hour beside a bin in the sun with my little girl while she sent cryptic messages about a side door to a pub I had never heard of (she had actually mixed her orders up and was meeting a different customer outside a pub someplace else). I finally gave up messaged her my home address and left, received an upset message saying she had been standing beside the bin the whole time - she certainly had not - she then followed me to the beach where she presented me with a pathetic looking squashed cake topped with four ferrero rocher that had all slid off to one side while she was driving around in the sun. I couldn't bear anymore of the madness so I rummaged in my handbag for the money while she ranted about high maintenance customers looking for ridiculous combinations such as vegan and gluten free. I couldn't wipe the dismay off my face. "No, no, yours isn't gluten free, you never asked for that." I found my original message and showed her. "Next time" she told me brightly while holding her hand out for the agreed 40 quid. And like the fool I am I handed it right over.

If you open the jar, does it make a dash for the exit? If not you’re fine Wink

@y0rkier0se Fuck me, that looks horrific.

The people defending the crap discussed on this post are probably all mlm 'consultants'....they seem to have no qualms about ripping people off either.
