To find this the most irritating thing ever?

My DP watches videos on fb I would say about 80% of his time. On the toilet, while sitting on the couch watching tv, even on a car journey once he pulls up to where we are going or at home he whips his phone out to watch a video nearly always on full volume. They are always specifically long winded ones where couples prank each other, or people who think they are doing something utterly hilarious and shrieking in the video every 10 seconds for 20 mins.
I do watch my instagram stories a few times a day and occasional fb videos (I'm not a fan of them and if I do watch them i will often watch with sound off as alot of the time they are subtitled) but I try to do this away from annoying people so in the bath or I'll go to the bedroom to sit for 10 mins so I'm not disturbing anyone watching tv etc.

Now I'm not saying I expect my DP to leave the room when he wants to watch a video but the other night we are midway through watching a drama on TV that is confusing so needs full attention, my DP isn't always as into these programs as I am which is fair enough so he sits on his phone but when he comes across a video he plays it and its loud enough that I can't hear the tv properly (not exaggerating) and this is not a one off he does it all the blooming time even if we are watching something he put on.

I know there are bigger issues in the world but am I being unreasonable to find this utterly irritating??

I get very arsey if I'm listening to or watching something and someone plays something over it. It gives me the rage so YANBU

Jelbo · 21/04/2021 20:08

Now I realise how much it annoys me its driving me insane!

UhtredRagnarson · 21/04/2021 20:12

I would absolutely hate this to the extent that I would be reconsidering the relationship Grin

LavendulaAngustifolia · 21/04/2021 20:18

I don't know why you're saying you don't believe he should leave the room because you should.

Ponoka7 · 21/04/2021 20:22

Headphones would easily sort this out, surely?

howsoonisnow85 · 21/04/2021 20:22

Oh god, my DH does this too & it drives me insane! I must say 'can you turn it down please' 5 times a day! So so annoying!!! 😡

BerniesMittens · 21/04/2021 20:27

It's also arrogant.

TaraR2020 · 21/04/2021 20:29

Line of duty?

He is being incredibly rude and he either stops or uses headphones. Incidentally, same applies to ppl on public transport but that's another conversation.

billy1966 · 21/04/2021 20:33

What a ignorant, selfish thing to do.

Also is he a bit dim?

I think you can definitely do better.

Frustratedbeyondbelief · 21/04/2021 20:33

Was the 'confusing drama' Line of duty by any chance ? If so then please feel entirely justified in building a patio to place him under !! No one is allowed to speak between 9-10pm on Sundays let alone play load inane videos.. LTB !

oopsydaisyyy · 21/04/2021 20:35

any chance his hearing has deteriorated/ hes going deaf?

JackieeWeaver · 21/04/2021 20:41

I just continue to turn up the tv volume, until he can't hear his videos anymore Hmm you are not being unreasonable. Same for tv on in one room, radio in another - just choose one!

DontBeRidiculous · 21/04/2021 20:42

I'd tell him it's annoying, then keep asking him to turn it down every time he does that. When he does it while you're watching TV, I'd hit pause, then ask him to either turn it down, put in earbuds, or leave the room.

If he's that uninterested in whatever you're watching, maybe he should just go into another room! It's hardly quality time, if he's not even watching. It's very rude to make noise when someone else is trying to watch TV, no matter what's causing the noise.

Muitolegal · 21/04/2021 20:44

Doesn’t he have headphones?

Candycane57 · 21/04/2021 20:44

Get him some bluetooth earphones- less than 15 quid and it'll give you some peace and quiet. I think they saved my marriage Grin

JokeTheCoalman · 21/04/2021 20:48

Are you kidding? He sounds like an absolute bore and about 12 years old

pictish · 21/04/2021 20:49

Um...what? How pig ignorant can he be? That’s the height of bad manners. Christ.

Jelbo · 21/04/2021 20:54

@TaraR2020 @frustratedbeyondbelief yes it was line of duty! I'm already confused enough without him distracting me 🤣

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 21/04/2021 20:58

Omg, yes. My husband does it too and it drives me potty! Loud car videos, stupid prank videos, random other pointless things. All. The. Time.

Then he wonders why I get cheesed off when he says he ‘hasn’t had time’ to do something he says he was going to do. He wastes so much time watching nonsense on the internet!

SingleMamaG · 21/04/2021 20:59

Agree to turn the telly up full volume until he turns the phone down! Or turn the wifi off put his phone on flight ✈️ mode

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 21/04/2021 20:59

Playing inane videos during Line of Duty is a LTB level offence!

CorianderBee · 21/04/2021 21:54

Does he not own headphones?

junebirthdaygirl · 21/04/2021 22:00

My dh does that at times because of forgetting or not bothering to put in his headphones. I just say HEADPHONES!!! And he obliges. I cannot stand more than one minute and l would never do this to him. Don't apologise for this. He has no consideration for you
