Bra shopping. Large band size but small boobs.

Sorry wrong place but posting here for traffic.

Where I can find some places that cater for a lady (me) with a large chest measurement (42) and only just filling a B cup!

A lot of places don’t go up to a 42 and when they do it starts at a C - I need a B cup.

Marks and Spencer’s for a few but selection not great.

I like something slightly padded and I also really like plunge style bras as the wiring doesn’t come quite so far up between my boobs - that are also set quite far apart 😂 cannot go for anything to full looking on the cups as it just feels too big and often can be seen peering above t shirts and blouses etc that are lower cut!

I don’t want a sports bra as I do need some support and I do like underwiring to give me a bit of a push up!

Any ideas? Anyone else in the same boat? I feel shops feel curvier ladies will always have bigger boobs but my boobs don’t seem to increase or decrease with weight gain or loss!

It was much easier when I was slimmer and smaller band!

I am working on losing weight so don’t want to spend too much either as may need another soon!

Not going to get into a debate about what size the OP actually is, I would rather answer the question she asked. I've found Bon Prix, Marisota, Curvissa and sometimes JD Williams great for an enormous range is bra sizes and styles. Having been an overweight 44b for years, and have some very pretty, supportive and easy to wash bras from these places. And there is normally free returns on ordering a few different size options to try.

inappropriateraspberry · 22/04/2021 16:25

If you have a Bravissimo shop near you, I'd go and ask for their help. They do a wide range of sizes and could at least advise on fit/style etc.

Musmerian · 22/04/2021 16:29

For every band size you go down you go up a cup size. So I’m a 34H but in some styles will wear a 36G. Like shoes not all makes/styles are the same size wise. If you were big with small boobs you could défi be a 42 b but lots of people get used to wearing a band size that’s too loose.

I don’t think I do. I live very rurally with the nearest large towns or cities 25 or 50 miles away! Rubbish! 😒

I wear a 42b too was measured in Debenham, I was a 42c before my last 2 children and wore asda bras then, I get most of mine from matalan or sainsburys now

Franklyfrost · 22/04/2021 17:55

@dementedpixie

*38A = 36B = 34C = 32D with regards to cup volume
I.e. they hold the same amount of breast tissue.

The smaller back size will give the support in the place its supposed to be*

You sound like someone who has never seen a bra. Go to Tesco’s and see how many oranges you can fit I a b cup compared to a d cup.

It's really unlikely to be a 36 band and a size 10 though
That means your underbust goes from a 36 to what, a 29 waist so you've got a 7 inch difference between your underbust then the smallest part of you

26 inch waist. Yeah I’m a freak.
I wear a 36 back at size 20/22 so find it hard to imagine that a size 10 person would also wear a 36 back*

I’m tall so that makes me broader even if I’m slim. Also, I wouldn’t consider a bra that makes my flesh roll over the band at the back as it’s uncomfortable for me (although I know a lot of people don’t mind it so much because you see it all the time through tight tops).

dementedpixie · 22/04/2021 18:00

Eh?
A B cup on a 32 back is very different to a B cup on a 36 back but a D cup can have the same volume as a B cup if its on a different back size.
This shows sister sizes and the same cup letter on different back sizes

I don’t know why I feel compelled to explain how my body type can exist. It’s not that weird. Am I being trolled?

You obviously don't understand bra sizing and that cup size is proportional to back size. There isn't a standard B or D cup as they will be bigger or smaller depending on back size

Thomasina79 · 22/04/2021 18:08

I have recently discovered jersey bras (where have you been all my life!). I am larger than I should be, hate underwired bras and have great difficulty in doing up bras due to a very painful shoulder (trapped nerve). These I do up then put them on over my head. They probably are not for everyone, but they suit me. They are cotton too. I hate man made fabric. I did read somewhere that most women wear the wrong size bra.

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/04/2021 18:36

DementedPixie is correct re cup size being proportionate to band size. Pick up a 28A and a 38A, the cups are dramatically different sizes and hold a very different volume.

It is possible to be a 36 band (properly fitted) and a size 10, but it is also unusual. Most places list a size 10 as being a 35" chest (and that is an overbust measurement) but in reality unless you are wearing non stretch and very fitted clothing someone who was a correctly measured 36a could fit in a size 10. But on average most women have a band size measurement which is much closer to their waist measurement.

seven201 · 22/04/2021 20:08

@Charsy01

This is the one I’m currently wearing... in a 42b. My breasts don’t even fill it out completely... I’m so confused. But feels a good size around the band. Maybe a little loose but I’ve had it a while and has probably lost its full shape...
I'm a 38b or sometimes 36b and I love this bra! I wear it most days. I have wide ribs (got wider after having a baby), I'm a size 12 or 14. Some b cups gape on me. I like the softly padded ones like the one you show here. A smaller band hurts. My bras fit me well and they are comfy. Just saying that as so many on here are insisting you can't be right. Obviously they know your boobs better than you. I guess you might as well have a go at the boob or bust thing but if you're happy with your bra size then good!
seven201 · 22/04/2021 20:17

Sorry, I should have refreshed the thread! I see you've done lots of measuring

Cutesbabasmummy · 22/04/2021 21:03

I'm raging at the people on here saying you don't need a bra if you are an A or B cup! How bloody rude are you? I'm.a 34 A and of I don't wear a bra I don't have a nice shape and also they bounce if I run! Good luck OP and please ignore all the unhelpful comments on this thread!

QueenPaw · 22/04/2021 21:26

It's because an A cup is one inch of boob, it's on the small side. Most people who think they are a 34A are usually something like a 30D (4 inches)
An A cup can't really bounce everywhere because it's very little breast tissue

She’s correct though. If you look at a 32 B and a 38 B the cup size is completely different.

Back when I was a bra fitter I would only ever really recommend a sister size if they were in between sizes or if someone was desperate for a particular bra and we didn’t stock it in their measured size. Sister sizes have the same amount of volume in the cups but obviously your actual bra size would fit and support you better.

QueenPaw · 22/04/2021 21:33

I think when people say A or B cup, because of the media and M&S measuring they think j of the first image where it's more like the second
Images from googling a cup..

I know! The rudeness of it.

It's not!!! 'One inch of boob' makes no sense. Breasts are DIFFERENT ffs. I am getting really pissed at saying this. I cannot wear any other size than a 38a. I need a bra. I may not have much breast tissue but what I do have bounces everywhere when I run and hurts. Seriously, shh.
HowWeAre · 22/04/2021 21:44

@Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep A cup means that your breasts are one inches bigger than your band size, therefore stick out 1 inch from your chest.

This. I can’t tell you how many Mums came in for fittings for young teenage daughters with small but still noticeable breasts. They would measure at something like 30C and their Mum would insist it was wrong as they ‘couldn’t possibly be a C cup’ and leave with a 34A.
CaptainAwkward · 22/04/2021 21:47

Out of curiosity, what measurement are you under your bust (holding the tape tightly) and then over around your fullest part of your breast?

dementedpixie · 22/04/2021 21:50

@Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep so you measure 38 inches under your breasts and 39 inches round the fullest part of your bust; as that's what a 38A equates to

Maybe smaller back sizes feel too tight as the cup size is far too small.
