What have you the 'ick'?

I follow a page on social media and she regularly talks about the 'ick'.

The 'ick' is when you're dating someone or in a relationship and they do/say this one thing that suddenly turns you off them and everything they do suddenly seems to be irritating.

Mine is, I was once seeing this guy but then everytime he was feeling a bit Randy, he'd turn to me and go "do you fancy a wiggle?!"

I just couldn't look at him the same after that! 🙈😂

“A bit Randy” would give be the ick

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/04/2021 10:26

That would give anyone the ‘ick’!

My boyfriend from 16-18 gave me the ‘ick’ with his excessive clinginess but also his use of ‘of an evening’. That honestly drove me up the wall and I couldn’t stand him. DH says it now and it doesn’t get the same response from me at all.

FoxyTheFox · 20/04/2021 10:28

A guy I was dating before DH used to wang on about intimacy and being intimate but in a really whiny way as in "I wish we could be more intimate" and "do you think you'd ever be interested in more intimacy?" when what he really meant was "I want a shag". I didn't shag him, dumped him instead.

Another time I got the ick when someone I was dating pronounced WiFi as "whiffy".

Sparklfairy · 20/04/2021 10:30

Whenever I would hand him something, he would say 'schpank (spank) you very much!' in a really stupid voice.

We also went on a trip for a few days with lots of driving and he spent every car journey constantly picking his nose Envy a proper root around too, twisting his finger right round and round. I gritted my teeth and would count the seconds after he would stop until his hand edged towards his nose again. Never got beyond 10 seconds. It was vile.

Jericha · 20/04/2021 10:33

My ex would only wear a tshirt to bed sometimes. Like a big overgrown toddler. Horrible

Ponoka7 · 20/04/2021 10:38

I've been dating since November. Since reading about the ick, I've been asking him to stop any behaviour that I know could induce it. Very feminine 'oohs' and blowing his nose for ages are two.

LindaEllen · 20/04/2021 10:42

It got to the point where everything my ex did drove me mad, but one of the main issues was he used to pretend to steal my nose (because when we got together we made a joke of him stealing it and me pretend crying for my small niece). It used to drive me mad. I'm all for a bit of a mess around with my niece and nephews but fuck me, when he started doing it in private as well I started wishing we had a house with a patio rather than a flat!

FanPanCan · 20/04/2021 10:46

I was on the verge of a FWB type relationship when the bloke started talking about my 'titties'. Instant ick. The thing never happened!

MNHasCorruptedMe · 20/04/2021 10:49

You should do him a favour and leave him - you're trying to change him to what you prefer and this may result in resentment for both of you down the line. He doesn't have to stop his "feminine 'oohs'" (Why? Because a man can't "ooh" like a woman) for you or stop blowing his nose because of you.

My ExH used to tell me to stop some little behaviours too. Turns out he was a controlling, abusive (physical, mental, etc) narcissist who wanted to mold me (including every little quirk) into who he wanted rather than accept who I am or go for someone else.

ShirleyPhallus · 20/04/2021 10:53

A guy I dated once tried to spank me in the middle of sex. His weapon of choice? A very disgusting slipper. No thanks mate.

Another told me I had “delicious breasts” which sounded very formal and almost medical

Rosewood017 · 20/04/2021 11:02

An old boyfriend used to always give non-commital answers to everything. He'd say 'can do..' to everything.

Want a drink? Can do...
Tea? Can do..
Should I pay for dinner again? Can do...

Batshitkerazy · 20/04/2021 11:14

I used to get the ick when I was younger for really silly things. I went right off a guy because we had lunch together and he ate the rings of onion from a salad. I remember feeling outraged that he would dare to do that before kissing me Grin

Buffaloskull · 20/04/2021 11:14

Any kind of "baby talk" which I'd imagine gives most the ick, yet plenty still do it..

One that springs to mind was: ex used to call his teeth "toothy pegs" 🤢

AvocadoHo · 20/04/2021 11:15

Me too to be fair. I couldn't think how else to word it! 🙈😂

@Jericha - just a t-shirt? So with his dangly bits hanging out the hem?!

I've got the ick just thinking about that...

Jericha · 20/04/2021 11:55

@Twatterati yes exactly like that. Horrifying.

mewkins · 20/04/2021 12:17

Whiney baby voice is immediate ick. Also someone that referred to the bank holiday at the end of May as 'Whitsun' randomly did my head in. I can't explain why.

Claricethecat45 · 20/04/2021 14:54

Just hearing an ex of mine telling me his 'percy' was in the mood to wake up ......cringe and swift exit

Twatterati · 20/04/2021 17:37

@Jericha - OMG! My 'vag' has shrivelled up at just the thought! Why??? In what world is that remotely anything, let alone sexy. It's worse than leaving socks on! FFS, choose naked or dressed, you're not a toddler on the beach.

I'm giving this waaayy too much thought and imagining all my ex-DPs wandering around like this. I might never be intimate again 😂😂😂

Jericha · 20/04/2021 22:01

@Twatterati Grin it was my first grown up relationship where you'd stay at their house for the night rather than sneak around. At the time I was repulsed but thought I was being a cow. Now with hindsight I wish I just bloody ran while he was removing everything below the waist Grin

jezziej · 20/04/2021 22:08

I went for lunch at harvesterwith a guy once, I wasn't interested but it was ok I was listening to him talk, whatever

He insisted I eat some of his food. Then told me immediately after he had a cold sore.

At this point I wanted to just go. This was enough. He then proceeded to pester me to come back to his... for a good 5 mins... in the middle of an island in the road. Melodramatic performance with arms outstretched begging for my hand.

Naturally, there was no second meet up. Still get the odd message a year later 🙄

MammaSchwifty · 20/04/2021 22:15

eating weirdly or in a gross way
