To ask for tips to stop cats pooing in my garden?

There are about four cats who live on or around my street. See them regularly. One (or more) of them keeps pooing amongst the gravel in my front garden. It’s about once every other day. It’s pretty disgusting and driving me mad.

Does anyone have any tips to prevent this that actually work?

lion pooh.

No I am not joking, you can buy it online (as a powder or liquid) and it is supposed to deter cats.
I just have no idea as to costs and how often it needs applying.

And laying bramble branches on their favourite spots...

Get a terrier.

The local cats soon learn which gardens have dogs in that will chase them!

I have a sonic repeller (brand = Intey, I just checked my Amazon history) which actually does work!

PaperMonster · 20/04/2021 11:14

Male urine deters them. Wouldn’t recommend it in this lovely weather though!!

Isthatabat · 20/04/2021 11:45

Thanks all! I’ll give some of these a try.

Nonmaquillee · 20/04/2021 11:56

Orange peel - according to our neighbour.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 20/04/2021 12:07

And this one. They don't come near to it Helichrysum italicum

emilyfrost · 20/04/2021 12:08

Post it back through your neighbours letterbox. Their cat, their shit to deal with.

HeckyPeck · 20/04/2021 12:09

Grapefruit, cut up or just the peel works.

I have a cat and he has an outdoor litter tray, but was also using the gravel. I cut up a grapefruit into little cubes, poured the juice over and then put the little cubes on the gravel and he's ignored it ever since.

Missfelipe · 20/04/2021 12:20

This does my head in! When we got our dog the neighbourhood cats stopped doing their business the the back garden but they now do it in the front and on the driveway. It’s really unpleasant!

Shusername · 20/04/2021 12:22

Garlic cloves work

foxyroxyyy · 20/04/2021 12:27

Bloody hate cats. The woman who lived here before us had a dog and now they've realised it's gone they are having a field day! Fuckers

novaissuper · 20/04/2021 14:11

Do you know who the cat belongs to? If so you could ask the owner to ensure their cat has both a litter tray and an area within its own garden where it is encouraged to toilet. I dug up the grass in the corner and covered it with litter.

Other than that there's motion sensitive sprinklers but they are costly. You could camp out with a water pistol but who has time for that...

Ultimately animals will poo in our gardens. There's not much to be done about it. Many cats are still free roaming and animals don't understand property boundaries. It's just one of those things.

Isthatabat · 20/04/2021 23:18

I have a suspicion about who it is but no firm proof - I’ve never seen the culprit in the act.

My old neighbour had one of these and it put me off going in my own garden. I could hear it. Was a high pitched whine.

You don't even need to actually buy a dog. I dog sit a lurcher for a weekend every 6 weeks or so. That's enough to deter them it seems.
OmniversalSpecies2021 · 21/04/2021 22:47

if you plant some catnip they'll stop using your garden as a toilet..........
