To Expect to Receive Clean Stuff?

So I have been buying more second-hand items recently (eBay) and this has really put me off... About half of the items I've received have been varying degrees of dirty, with the worst one being covered in mud, with a mixture of what looked like hay and pet hairs all over it.

Now, of course I'm not expecting them to look like new. I'm not expecting ironing, dry-cleaning or anything else like that. I'm not even expecting them to be freshly washed if they don't look dirty. When Im selling my own used items, I always make sure to wash any clothing / fabrics and wipe down anything plastic / metal. Personally, I would feel ashamed to send anything without cleaning it.

Am I expecting too much?

Yes, I went through paypal and made a claim, sorry I didn't make my post very clear. Wasn't impressed at all!

@Kokapetl

I think if you are giving something away for example on freecycle, it's ok for it not to be clean as long as that is made clear. I've had chairs to get rid of and the main purpose is keeping them out of the dump and people were fine with this. They can clean or refurbish them.

Likewise, if someone gives me some clothes for they kids, I don't mind if it needs a wash.

If you are paying for something though, yes, it should definitely be clean! Surely they get bad reviews on eBay if they do this regularly?

Sorry. To me it's the same as giving to Charity shops. Stuff should be clean. Tatty is one thing. Dirty is another.

I would be embarrassed to give away something grubby.

I recently bought a lovely black dress which was listed as in good condition. It arrived covered in pet hair which is both grim and potentially dangerous for people with an allergy.

YANBU. I’ve had a few parcels with that grotty, dirty smell. Sometimes you can smell the stuff before you even open the parcel. I’m not sure which one I hate more. The smokey ones or the ones that smell like cooking and damp.

I recently bought a second hand rather muddy buggy board from Facebook market place for just £5- the same model was getting around £30 clean. I’d much rather just give it a hose down myself than pay an extra £25 and they just wanted it out of their way with minimal effort. Win win.

What sort of a mingebag doesn’t wash stuff they’re selling?!

YANBU at all!
