Cat hair in baby milk tub

Hello, - quick question.

Just went to make a bottle and there is a cat hair in the baby milk tub, how it's got there I have no idea, I have two cats, they don't go outside and they're in the house at all times.

  • aibu to just throw the milk tub away? i don't know if there are any diseases in cat hairs.
Or am I just being dramatic?

I would just pick it out and use the milk. I’m presuming this is your first child? 🤣. I’m really not trying to be rude but I don’t think that’s a question you would ask with your second 🙂. The baby will be exposed to the cats hair anyway I’m sure.

Angrypregnantlady · 19/04/2021 10:32

I think you're being dramatic. Your baby has most likely come into contact with your cats hair quite a bit already, and you're putting boiling water in aren't you?

Scrunchy95 · 19/04/2021 10:32

I'd scoop out the hair and any powder surrounding it. But don't throw it away. If you have cats in the house trust me, your baby is getting exposed to cat hair in their mouth.

Another for picking it out. Formula is expensive. Baby will be fine.

Wait until you are picking cat food from your dc's mouth!!

Talkabtit101 · 19/04/2021 10:34

Yes boiling water is going into the bottles, and yes first child😂. She loves the cats and I did think well it's the same as getting a cat hair in her mouth which has happened a few times and surely that poses more risk than it being in a formula tub and then adding boiling hot water. I did pick the hair out and then just make her bottle, but then started overthinking it - as usual

Oh God, yes! It's DC2's favourite snack.

I got the hair out, but I didn't scoop the powder out, I just shook the tin and used from the bottom..

The day will come op when your child will lick your cat. Just because Wink.

Pick out the hair or scoop out the powder it's sat in. As usual make up your formula with water at least 70 degrees C to stabilise the powder.

Your baby (and you) will have inadvertently feasted upon cat hair! I grew up with cats... 9 of them, back in the 70s and 80s. I have cats now (and a dog). I'm 49 and have lived to tell the tale (or tail! Can I get a boom and a snare for that?).
Short answer, your baby will be fine. Everything's ok.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 19/04/2021 10:36

Another with a DD who nicks the cat food. Tbf she does it when she's feeding the cat, something she is very keen to do (she is 20m old) Grin

Mine ate cat food and would try to eat cat litter I'd have to scoop it out their cheek. My nephew more than once at random peoples food he found on the floor at a restaurant and took a sip from a random can he found in the street. Your baby will be fine.

FireflyRainbow · 19/04/2021 12:28

Baby will try licking the cat eventually

BrumBoo · 19/04/2021 12:30

Oh dear. Just wait until your child has their first Sudocreme incident Grin. Just pick it out, it will be fine. I'm sure my children are about 70% cat hair at the moment, bloody shedding season....

I was just going to say this Grin

Wait until your baby is toddling and tries to lick the cat, poke the cat in the bum etc.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 19/04/2021 12:41

As your baby has or will probably try using a tail as a teething ring at some point, eating the crunchies and will undoubtedly share yoghurts, displaying a charming understanding of taking turns (one for me, one for the cat...),

I'd pick out the hair and not think about it again.

IDrinkFromTheKegOfGlory · 19/04/2021 12:45

Yep DS ate full mouthfuls of cat food when he was crawling. He used to make a beeline for their bowls! He's now 11 and is robustly healthy!
