Hi I live in a terraced property and next door are having a large 2 bedroom extension done and I honestly can't see out my windows, the door in filthy, my plants are covered in dust and the car is filthy from concrete dust. Should the builders pay for my windows, door, and car to be cleaned once they have completed the extension. Being a terraced house they have used our roof for scaffolding even drilling it into our wall (without asking!) and always use are parking spaces which we have put up with. The neighbor's have moved out whilst it is being done (lucky couple!) . It has been 3 months of dust and filth to-date and not finished. Any answers please - is it something builers must do after the build or not ?

Your neighbours should offer to do that for you. As they are away they probably don't realise the impact but if you have a decent relationship you could ask them if they would (take photos).

They are not that friendly a bit stand offish they havent apologized for all the noise ect when they pop round to check on the builders and we have been in the garden - so you think it is not up to the builders but the neighbours?

They have drilled into your wall? Why? Speak to the neighbours, the builders work for them

Why have you allowed them to drill into your walls and yuse your spaces?

Take photos of everything and be less of a doormat.

My neighbours did a big job a few years ago and I regularly saw them out hosing down the neighbours windows and cars.
They were a well reviewed company.

When you allow people to walk all over you, you get treated like shit.

My husband asked them not to but they did when we were out also broke some of our roof tiles which they have replaced. My husband they must repair everything damaged and fill the hole and leave as was - we have taken photos before and after. He is also going to ask them in compensation to fix some rendering on our wall at the back to compensate for the hole they drilled - they said they will - we will see but we live in a rural area and these people could not afford to have bad reviews. I suppose I will have to wait and see what they do when they finish. I just really wanted to know if it was a legal requirement for them to clean up the mess to our house or if it was just something a very good company would do - thanks

If they’re local just get the builders to clean up - I wouldn’t waste time talking to the neighbours. In your position I’d wait until your neighbours have moved in and then start my own messy building works Wink

So they damaged your property after being told they did NOT have permission?

Why haven't you contacted a solicitor to send them a letter spelling this out?

You are being very passive.

Bad review?

Whatever happens leave a stinker of a review.

The next job they go to the next door neighbours need to know they don't give a damn and will damage their property despite being told they don't have permission.

Ye are very very passive people.

Have you a party wall act in place?
Neighbour should offer a car/window clean when done. Rain will clean plants.

If you're planning your own building works I wouldn't risk being petty about theirs now or they might be very obstructive.

The fact that they've moved out is a positive as it means the builders will be done quicker. Try talking to them next time they pop round, don't be a victim. They may be unaware of the impact of the build.

The builders are a month behind already some days they turn up some days they dont and the owners pop to the house weekends to put in a kitchen unit and move the bathroom so they know the situation- but I wouldnt be petty I just wouldnt have their windows ect cleaned if ours arent done when it is finished.
