What clothes do you wear on an everyday basis, and how many do you have?

The last year has botched my sense of what I need to have in my wardrobe Hmm but additionally, I had moved countries before the pandemic while finishing my MSc so got rid of a LOT of clothes before the move. I just seem to have nothing.

I get up. Put on pj bottoms for doing stuff around the house. Put on leggings to go outside for a walk/ to get groceries.

My old work clothes just hang in the wardrobe, I haven't worn jeans for about a year. I want to buy some new bits and pieces but don't know what I like anymore?

How would you build up a wardrobe from this? What kinds of things do you wear every day - I need ideas? Where to start?

I just want someone to dress me Grin

During the last 13months, or in what I used to consider 'normal' life ?

AbsentmindedWoman · 18/04/2021 21:49

Well, both really I think?

I just want to not feel my clothes are so depressing, even if I'm not doing 'normal life'.

When things are fully back to normal and I have a job (currently can't work due to visa restrictions) I think I might do one of those personal shopper sessions, but that won't be for a long while.

Watching!

Day to day uniform before covid was:

Skinny jeans, trainers and a top such as jumper.

Day to day wear now I'm home:

Mostly harem pants and a hoody with furry slippers.

gerbilfur · 18/04/2021 21:56

Before lockdown - nice dresses, chunky cardies, boots, jeans, the odd jump or play suit.

Since lockdown - one of the 2 pairs of black leggings I can hoof over my now gargantuan arse, teamed with a scruffy long t shirt (bonus points if it has yesterday's dinner splattered on it) and novelty cat slippers, with one ear missing as my actual cat took umbrage to them 😆

Look at it a different way. You do know what you like. You like pyjama like trousers for the house, and leggings for outside. You’re not bothered about jeans (and that’s absolutely fine - they’re overrated) and you don’t need any more work clothes because you have tonnes hanging in your wardrobe. So build from there; choose comfortable relaxed cotton, linen or similar breathable trousers. Spend a bit more on some really great leggings. I recently bought a load of vibrant M&S men’s lambswool jumpers in the sale and they go with everything. Some black t shirts and white t shirts in a v or scoop neck - all these keep you comfortable but smart.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 18/04/2021 22:03

I'm no help, I'm afraid - since lockdown: leggings/jeggings; long tank-tops; baggy jumpers/hoodies (or in warm weather, a long baggy tshirt).

Why do you need to buy anything OP?

ghostyslovesheets · 18/04/2021 22:07

Jeans - many pairs of jeans - ankle length, mum, skinny - with t shirts and a dreaded cardi or a jumper - since lock down and working from home

prior to lock down - smart draw string trousers, t shirt tops, cardigans or jackets or little kimono tops

sometimes smock maxi dresses or shifts

all with trainers - many kinds including Nike and Vans

I'm a middle aged cliche!

I feel terrible! The last year hasn’t changed the way I’ve dressed at all! I only wear PJ’s in bed, and wear dresses of varying bright colours and patterns in fabrics suitable to the weather (I don’t suit trousers, I’m the wrong shape for them!).
I get that with Covid has meant we haven’t been able to get out and about like we used to, but if i stayed in PJ’s or slobby clothes, it would make me miserable. I appreciate we can’t all be the same though- my partner frequently joked that he thought I was bonkers for getting ‘dressed Up to go to the living room’!

georgarina · 18/04/2021 22:14

leggings, boots, fitted top with longline cardigan

therocinante · 18/04/2021 22:21

3 midi dresses (tights & trainers/ankle boots). Leopard print, polka dot, a green small floralish pattern.

4-5 midi skirts (also florals, polka dots, and leopard print haha) with various t-shirts (a couple of vintage ones, Breton stripes and plain) tucked in, also with trainers or ankle boots.

2 pairs of dungarees, one black Lucy & Yak and one black denim, usually work with t-shirt/long sleeved top and Vans trainers.

For lazy days/lounging it's just leggings and some kind of massive vintage sweatshirt style jumper (soft cos they're old - it's why I always buy vintage ones!)

So, it's a very specific look but it works for me!

BuyYourOwnBBQGlenda · 18/04/2021 22:33

I have no idea how many clothes I own but I seem to wear jeans and a turtle neck every day. Professional enough for zoom but doesn't feel like I've had to dress up properly.

My manager stood up on camera the other day and I realised he was wearing tartan PJs on the bottom Grin No help, sorry!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 18/04/2021 22:37

@therocinante my Dd has just introduced me to Lucy & Yak! Their dungarees are so nice. I would like a pair of black cord ones but they are a bit pricey for me!

Gobbeldegook · 18/04/2021 22:50

I literally live in compression leggings. I love the sucked in feeling

nanbread · 18/04/2021 23:07

I mostly wear a smarter version of baggy t shirt and joggers / loose trousers. A bit like this.

www.stories.com/en_gbp/clothing/tops/tops-t-shirts/product.boxy-crewneck-t-shirt-black.0955830006.html

Can't fit into most of my other clothes...

lljkk · 18/04/2021 23:16

I am trying not to buy anything, I have too many clothes for my needs.

I tend to wear PJs, leggings, leggings under shorts, jeans. Mix of tops, basically t-shirts & hoodies in layers.

Holothane · 18/04/2021 23:21

Jeans and t shirts I live in them. In winter especially I love -us.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/04/2021 23:24

My “spring uniform” is jeans with a tucked in t-shirt and a v-neck cardi. Jeans are balloon or barrel leg, by Whistles or Levi’s, tees mainly from Joanie or Etsy sellers, and I have numerous cardigans from Arket and Other Stories in various colours. I wear trainers (Adidas, Veja, or Nike) or DM boots. I have a couple of pairs of dungarees which work all year round.

In summer I will wear more midi skirts with t-shirts, or midi dresses. Winter is back to jeans, with jumpers. I also have quite a few great pairs of cords, either culottes or peg-leg style.

Pre working from home I wore a lot of cropped wide leg trousers, and shorter skirts/dresses with opaque tights. I am on video calls about 50% of the working day (lecturer) and just wouldn’t feel right in my pjs or joggers.
