I feel like an arse posting this, and am probably being judgy. However here’s the story.

I constantly see a friend of mine posting on Facebook her feeding both her dog and her grandchild completely inappropriate food,

Example - dog - full English breakfast including buttered bread
Granddaughter (less than 1) mc Donald’s breakfast - a whole one - muffin plus hash browns Etc.

I’d never make a negative comment publicly on a post but have seen others quite kindly make hints about the dog (like your vet will tell you off etc).

Would you (privately) say something?

It's none of your business.

@LaceyBetty this isn’t a one off. I’ve given two examples that’s all.

How much of the McDonald's breakfast is the baby actually eating? I would be incredibly surprised if they were eating the whole thing. I mean of course it's not great on a regular basis.

Sadly fat pets its a really common sight. People don't realise that animals suffer just the same as humans from bad diets. People seem to see fat pets as cute and cuddly, and don't even consider the health risks and the strain on their joints.

Some people genuinely don't know. Talking to someone who was cutting out sugar from their children's diet, and they told me that they stopped putting sugar on their child's coco pops so it was a sugar free breakfast.

Surprised at the amount of people who don't see anything wrong with giving a baby under 1 McDonalds 🙄 and this coming fr someone who loves a McDonald's...

Op, it's really up to you whether you want to say anything or not but I think it'll very likely make no difference. People get very defensive about this stuff

Isaidachangewoulddoyougood · 18/04/2021 10:43

@Xmassprout I’d have no idea to be fair. As a result of this post I’ve just revisited their insta and there are also two separate posts with happy meals. I’m really not one to judge other people’s diets - mine isn’t the best either, but I genuinely think she hasn’t a clue.

With the dog - it’s more like the dog has the same dinner that she does. Two slices of bread with butter etc.

If I were to say something it really wouldn’t be preachy. Am thinking more of trying to find a news story or similar and saying “did you hear about”... or something more like that.

This is exactly what this friend would say. I honestly don’t think she knows.

Maybe you could really gently message her and say “I know you are a loving granny and dog owner and I’m really worried about saying this to you in case it upsets you. But I am a little bit worried about the food your giving both the dog and the GC and just wondered if you were aware of how unhealthy it is for them. Please don’t be offended but (insert the details you know about the foods here) and I honestly just wanted to tell you as I know you’d never ever do something you knew to be harmful.

I don’t see how she could be offended by something similar to the above...

I'm not saying I don't see anything wrong with it. I would never have done it. But there is no way a 10 month old baby is putting away a whole sausage McMuffin and it won't destroy its kidneys. I would not say anything to my friend.

Isaidachangewoulddoyougood · 18/04/2021 11:00

@LaceyBetty read my update - it’s not one breakfast.

I still wouldn't say anything. Not my business.

Butwasitherdriveway · 18/04/2021 11:06

If it's a proper friend ,id speak to her

Isaidachangewoulddoyougood · 18/04/2021 11:17

Well it seems the concensus is not to say anything. It is a good friend and I was thinking more like bringing it up fairly subtly when I next see her rather than an out of the blue Instagram message would that make a difference?

Yeh I think that's a good idea
WorraLiberty · 18/04/2021 11:21

How exactly do you see this dog tucking into a full English breakfast?

Does she video it eating the entire meal or is it a photo where it's being fed a bit?

Either way, keep out of it.

Isaidachangewoulddoyougood · 18/04/2021 11:23

@WorraLiberty it will be a photo or video or her putting down a full English for the dog on a plate, on the floor. Or a photo of say two dinners - one for her, one for the dog. Unlike the baby I assume it will eat it all - as it’s dog.
