Parking issue

Dohrehmee · 17/04/2021 20:07

Hi there, my parents live in a Terraced house with my brother. My brother owns one car. There is a family who live opposite me. It is the Mum, dad, two adult sons , three daughters Abd the one of the adults son is married with two Young kids. They also own the next door house which they rent out to tenants. The dad has a taxi, his adult son has a car, And his other adult son also has a taxi. Then they have cousins who also have cars. The adult son has parked in front of our house . It’s been three months. The dad has parked it to my next door neighbours who dont own a car but when the husband comes from another city , he does have a car. The issue is this family already have three cars in the street, and then they have their cousins cars which are another 2 or 3 parked on the street. I know anyone can legally park On the road . But does this also apply for taxis. This family are very inconsiderate. The two sons are also drug dealers . We can’t ask them as we don’t know how they will react. But can anything be done about the taxis being parked on the street. The dad And his adult son have left their cars parked and looks like they’ve gone abroad. The other adult son is here And he does have a spare set of car keys. Anyone got any suggestions to help me ?

You could check if the cars are taxed and report them if not. Otherwise they are entitled to park wherever they want as long as it's legal. Why does it matter to you? And what is the relevance of your parents and brother?

Moelwynbach · 17/04/2021 20:42

As long as its taxed and insured there is nothing you can do. Perfectly entitled to park like everyone else.

Lou98 · 17/04/2021 20:47

Wondering if this is true or not🤔 what's the relevance of your parents and brother? Do they live with you?
Also you seem to know a lot about them to know that the sons are drug dealers. Sounds like a lot of people in one house!

If this is real then YABU, while yes it would be annoying to have that many cars taking up spaces, provided they are taxed and insured, not blocking driveways etc then they're not doing anything wrong. Yes taxis need to park too

Lou98 · 17/04/2021 20:48

You've also not mentioned that you have a car, do you and you're struggling to get parked? Or do you not but want to complain when it doesn't really then affect you?

Cabinfever10 · 17/04/2021 20:48

If you have evidence of drug dealing report them to the police, if they get convicted of drug dealing they lose their taxi licence. Otherwise they aren't doing anything wrong

ghostyslovesheets · 17/04/2021 20:57

very odd thread - your parents living in a terrace has no baring on your post!

Cars can park on the road - they are allowed - sorry

Theunamedcat · 17/04/2021 20:59

I assumed she meant victorian terrace with no room at the front for a driveway?

Timper · 17/04/2021 21:10

What has this got to do with your parents? Your post has not indicated you live with them so fits it got to do wi them?

PatsyJStone · 17/04/2021 21:13

Hare you saying the car has been parked in front of your parents house for three months without moving? This would be annoying, but if it is a public road/street then anyone can park anywhere. Unless you have a driveway that you can use this is how it can be with on street parking.
If the car has been there for three months and not moved you could say is it going to be moved as your brother would like to get parked and makes it easier for bringing in shopping etc. However sounds like you are intimidated by them and won’t. Not much else you can do unfortunately.

HappyDaysToCome · 17/04/2021 21:22

This sounds like one of those logic puzzles.

If the neighbour’s son’s cousin has a taxi, and his cousin has three cars, and the other neighbour’s husband has a car when he visits twice a month when the month has an A in it, how many cars are parked outside the OP’s house? (Or maybe the OP’s parents’ house).

YANBU to feel annoyed but YABU to think they are doing anything illegal. Unless drug-dealing. Which is illegal. And would be more of a thing to be worried about (if true...) than cars.

Whammyyammy · 17/04/2021 21:22

Only relevant advice that can actually solve your issue is buy a house with private off road packing.
As annoying as it is for you, they have as much right to park there as you, or me or anyone else who wants to.
Its a public highway, not a free extension of your property .
My FIL lives in a similar st, always a nightmares to find somewhere to park, and residents think they own the spaces.

Anyone got any suggestions to help me ?
There isn't any help for this. Any car can park anywhere they like. Cousins, taxis etc. None of it matters.

beginningoftheend · 17/04/2021 21:26

Nothing you can do. We live in a terraced area with some student housing where four rooms = four cars. If the cars are legally on the road they are legally on the road.

Biancadelrioisback · 17/04/2021 21:29

Nothing you can do unless they're blocking your drive or illegally parked.

Dohrehmee · 17/04/2021 21:35

It’s my parents house. My brother lives with them. We only have the one car . It’s a terraced house so there’s no driveway. I don’t live with them. It just inconsiderate this family has all these cars and have left them for months. and yes it easier to put shopping into ones house if ones car is by ones door.
I Do not live with my parents but every time I have visited them I’ve seen the amount of cars from this one house. I do not have a car. They have had extensions out in garden fur extra space which is why they are able to have so many people. Yes there’s not much one can do in this situation. Thanks fir the helpful replies

Perhaps there should be some sympathy that the taxis not moving means no income. Because there is very little work for taxi drivers at the moment.

Biancadelrioisback · 17/04/2021 21:41

So how does this affect you? You don't drive!
Also, how do you see/know that all these cars belong to this household? Unless they're flagged or something?

TrainspottingWelsh · 17/04/2021 21:45

Yabu. It's a public road. I also find it bizarre you've casually decided they are drug dealers. Clearly not very successful dealers if 8 adults and kids are in a terrace house, and supplementing their illegal earnings with a legal job that has been high risk and low pay over the last year.

Cipot · 17/04/2021 21:54

We live in an area with a lot of extended families. Most of them have 3 or 4 cars per household. Luckily we have a drive. But there isn't anything you can do. I have a feeling taxi drivers do have to say where they're planning to park when they're getting their license but unless they're parking illegally you have no basis to report them to Licensing. If the cousins cars were uninsured or not taxed then you might be able to do something but otherwise not. One of the disadvantages of living in those kind of roads unfortunately. It's very self centred.

Theshoepeople · 17/04/2021 21:54

There is no legal requirement to buy a house that has enough parking spaces for the cars you want to have. While it might feel fair on a terrace street to have one car per house, it isn't a realistic expectation and if your parents want to be guaranteed to have a parking spot outside or near their house, they'd need to buy a house with allocated parking. Even if your neighbours werent a multi car household, members of the public could come and use the street for parking if they wished.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 17/04/2021 21:57

@Cabinfever10

I completely agree with this. It's the public highway. As long as the cars, taxis or not, are legally on the road they have every right to park there.
Rewis · 17/04/2021 22:02

Is there an actual issue? Like does this mean that others in the street can't find parking etc. Or does it make the neighbourhood look undesirable? Or just general annoyance that they have several cars? If this cause people not to find parking then fair enough it's worth considering if anything can be done.

Whilst the OP is BU because it is a public road and whoever gets there first can park there...

I don't think its remotely bizarre to be aware of who is a dealer in your local area or a local area you are familiar with.

I doubt the OP has 'casually decided' that these people are dealers, I suspect it is much more likely the OP knows they are from personal experience/other sources etc, in the same way I know that a particular family in my area are dealers/growers/suppliers.
