Wouldn't have thought about it. There's lots of sport on this afternoon, but I'm on my own so I might incidentally be quiet.

AuntieMarys · 17/04/2021 13:22

Well I'm on my own today and don't plan to watch it.

FuckingFabulous · 17/04/2021 13:22

Yes, I will.

The man was the longest serving consort in history. The Duke Of Edinburgh award literally transformed the lives of countless young people. He did so much behind the scenes that he never asked or even expected recognition for. And he served Britain in WW2, against members of his own family. I will certainly pay him the respect.

Jocasta2018 · 17/04/2021 13:25

I'll be watching it, I live alone so I guess I'll be silent!
If I was out & about I would follow the crowd.

ladyinacampervan · 17/04/2021 13:28

No way.
Why would I waste that time I'll never get back remembering a man like that?

HeronLanyon · 17/04/2021 13:31

I will in memory of my late ma who died recently and would have - mixed up but for some reason seems right. Will think about her and my lovely old late dad too.

Holothane · 17/04/2021 13:33

No won’t be watching but I feel for the queen she’s lost her husband of 70 or more years but then so have many others this last week.

JudgeJ · 17/04/2021 13:47

@thenerveofsome

No, the man was a bigot and a racist.
Rubbish

Disgusting comment. Reported.

The Queen will no doubt treat this much as part of her job as she does everything else. I think they derived botox from her forehead as she never ever shows emotion. It doesn't appear that she had much personality above duty at any time in her life. What a drudgery to not be allowed to just be. I suppose that is why she liked him. He was as irreverant as she was reverant.

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 14:37

Was she Queen/future queen when she met him or was it before that?

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 14:38

It's not disgusting. Not everyone reveres the British Imperialists.

LesLavandes · 17/04/2021 14:38

Her Majesty was a Princess when she met Prince Philip

LesLavandes · 17/04/2021 14:39

You don't have to be on this thread if you're not interested

Heir then? Her father was King at the time and she was first in line?

I've studied Hitler. Doesn't mean that I like him.
alltoomuchrightnow · 17/04/2021 14:41

No, like thousands I'm working. Busy shop floor where I doubt anyone will observe it. Let alone for a nasty old racist

Isthereaduckinthehouse · 17/04/2021 14:44

How awfully humble of him to go off in his self designed landrover. Humble pomposity to the end.

MarshaBradyo · 17/04/2021 14:44

No

I see it more as a private sadness. I’m sure his family are sad it doesn’t really extend past that for me. Others will feel differently of course

wonderstuff · 17/04/2021 14:47

We held one before football today and last Saturday, I feel that's enough really. Very sad for the Queen but I'm not remotely affected tbh.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 17/04/2021 14:49

many of us are fed up of this anachronistic “royal” garbage holding this country back, there is absolutely no obligation to respect any of them, and no obligation to perform this pantomime of silence for this particular man above anyone else.

LadyPoison · 17/04/2021 14:56

No

I did not know him and his death whilst sad for his family doesn't mean much for me.

cariadlet · 17/04/2021 15:09

Just looked at the clock and realised that I unintentionally observed the silence. I'm doing some planning for next term and happened to be silent at 3 o'clock.

NellePorter · 17/04/2021 15:12

Yes. I am at the hairdressers and they asked everyone to observe it. The general sentiment here is that it's very sad and people wish to pay their respects. I don't know if it's relevant, but everyone here is younger than me (I'm in my forties). I find that interesting as I would have expected it to be mainly older people who would observe the minutes silence.
