Not strict silence but I was watching the funeral and so was quiet and respectful. I did make DH stop his drilling outside though, just for a minute or two. Don't suppose the neighbours will have noticed but it felt like the right thing to do.

99victoria · 17/04/2021 17:08

I was at a friend's birthday brunch. We kind of loosely thought we might when we all met up at 11.30 but we were in the garden having some prosecco and eating and catching up and when we checked our watches it was 3.30pm so we missed it!

Marmite27 · 17/04/2021 17:09

No, but I was on my way out of Asda and the manager told someone off for talking Shock

Bamburghdoodle · 17/04/2021 17:30

Classy.

seashells11 · 17/04/2021 17:37

I need £800 (which I can't afford) to get my car fixed. Couldn't help but think of Philip who got a brand new range rover delivered within a week of when he crashed his old one. No stress, no thoughts of the cost. What a wonderful life.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 17/04/2021 17:41

No because exactly a year ago today I was at my mum's funeral so I have been thinking of her today not somebody I never knew.

tinytemper66 · 17/04/2021 17:45

Well after the tennis I put on BBC1 and actually watched the funeral and was quiet for the minute's silence. I do like all the pomp and ceremony even if I think a lot of the coverage was OTT.

Alsohuman · 17/04/2021 17:55

Insurance. I’d get the same if my car was written off.

goldielockdown2 · 17/04/2021 18:01

I don't even have a car seashells and don't see how him writing off his car in an accident has anything to do with anything or anyone else's life. I can't fathom some people's thought processes sometimes! The man is dead. He longer has his life for god's sake.
Yes I paid my respects.

What a strange thought. On the day of his funeral. Car insurance is a wonderful thing though.

Those pesky toffs and their car insurance Hmm

@brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You really can't see past the palaces and the life of luxury can you?

Thankyou for your respect though as I am one of the cleaners of vomit and wipers of arses.

Her whole life has been one of duty and what is expected of her. Her behaviour, actions, responses, words, husband, children, grand children clothes, hair every tiny thing is scrutinised beyond belief and gossiped about yet she has never responded.

Has attended thousands upon thousands of events with all eyes on her.
Unable to take a day off like we could if we feel unwell. Not many women can put up with that for 70 plus years and continue to do so with the the grace that she does. This woman is 95 next week, so good on her I say.

And for all that yes she gets my respect for I wouldn't want her life in a million years.

Strugglingtodomybest · 17/04/2021 18:54

I probably did by accident, but didn't realise we were supposed to until I saw this thread.

HotChoc10 · 17/04/2021 18:56

No. The way our institutions try to get us to perform for them is disturbing.

Iwouldbecomplex · 17/04/2021 18:58

Nope I was having a lovely drink in the sun

She can always abdicate if she’s that hard done by 🙄

PrelovedWithValue · 17/04/2021 19:02

'unable to take a day off'? Nonsense. The most recent figures I could find, she did 67 days of public engagements in 2019.

I wouldn't want her life either, but she chooses it, every day. If she wanted to, she could walk away.

I don't have anything against her. But she doesn't get my respect just because she chooses to continue living in the lap of luxury and work 70 days per year.

seashells11 · 17/04/2021 19:02

Must be brilliant or she wouldn't be doing it.

Who said I thought it on the day of his funeral? Confused and my car insurance doesn't cover it. But thanks for your concern.

She's not like you or I, duty comes before everything including feelings and other humans

Imagine if she'd abdicated early on and Margaret was Queen 😳

She's 94 years of age! How many 94 year olds do you know who are still working?

Frankly at that age you're doing well if you can still breathe, identify your own family by name and wipe your own arse.

PrelovedWithValue · 17/04/2021 19:14

That's not unique. Look at all the care workers and nurses and doctors, look at what they had to deal with during the pandemic, especially in the earlier stages when we weren't geared up for it.

Many made sacrifices, like leaving their families, in order to work like shifts in extraordinarily difficult circumstances.

You can't say that her sense of duty is any greater than theirs.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 17/04/2021 19:14

Well David Armstrong Jones the Second Earl of Snowdon would be the king by now. It's not the most horrific prospect.

The man was 99 for God's sake.Get a grip. He's had a fantastic life.....and it was the delivery of s brand new identical car within a week which typified the inequality and the privilege which rankled. Not hard to understand surely.
