To ask you for UK holiday ideas

Newmama29 · 16/04/2021 20:26

Just curious as to where people suggest to holiday in the UK? I live on the west coast of Scotland & would really like some ideas of where we could possibly get a UK break this year seeing as we may not get abroad. Normally I find UK breaks so so expensive & not worth it compared to getting a week away in the sun but would really love a few days/week away this year seeing as me & DP have not had a break together in nearly 2 years. We have a 7 month old & happy with driving long distances.

So please, fire away some ideas! 😁

Christchurch/Bournemouth/Poole way. Absolutely beautiful place with so many sites to see. Me and my family visit every year (have been since I was a baby and now I'm taking my own kids there!)

ghostyslovesheets · 16/04/2021 20:40

Snowdonia via Liverpool and Chester

PicaK · 16/04/2021 20:43

West Coast of Scotland sounds amazing!! I'll house swop with you if you fancy being near Birmingham, Stratford, Warwick in a cute Worcestershire village!!
Semi joking. Funny how we all need to "get away"

BackforGood · 16/04/2021 20:44

Hmm, south coast is a Looooooooong drive from West Coast of Scotland.

What about the Lake District ?

Newmama29 · 16/04/2021 20:47

@IHTC oh that looks beautiful! Just had a google there & it looks lovely! I quite enjoy just walking around towns & looking at beautiful buildings etc.

@ghostyslovesheets we’ve been to Liverpool & Chester before but just for the day on the way to somewhere else. I’d love to go to Liverpool for a weekend but preferably without the baby so we could enjoy the nightlife too 🙈

I must add, I’m not a big outdoorsy person! Camping is my worst nightmare & I enjoy a nice walk but it’s not how I would like to spend my holiday (especially after this year when all I can do is walk 🙃).

North Coast of NI - you could bring the car by ferry and there are lots of beautiful places to stay

Newmama29 · 16/04/2021 20:49

@PicaK oh it truly is beautiful here & we have some lovely scenery & sights etc but I’ve seen it all now & would love to feel like I’ve been “away” 😂

@BackforGood I’m really keen to see the south coast of England as it’s not somewhere I’ve really visited (plus the weather is much better). A long drive isn’t too off putting as my DP likes driving, we would probably incorporate a road trip & visit some places on the way down to stay.

@thebakeoffwasntasgoodthisyear NI is a big contender as it’s the one country in the UK I’ve never visited! We’ve thought about taking the car over multiple times, any advice on where to stay?

There are some great itineraries on theirishroadtrip.com, under Causeway Coastal route

Newmama29 · 16/04/2021 21:10

@thebakeoffwasntasgoodthisyear Thank you! That website is great & has so much information & interesting places to visit.

I am from the West of Scotland too. I am off to a Haven in North Wales rearranged holiday from last year, lodge by the lake cannot wait!

tinytemper66 · 16/04/2021 21:24

As I live by the sea I will be going to London for a few breaks to see sights and family.

shouldistop · 16/04/2021 21:25

We're going to Cornwall, splitting up the journey by doing a theme park on the way down and on the way back up.

whiteroseredrose · 16/04/2021 21:31

It depends what you like doing. The Northumberland coast is lovely, Bamburgh beach is stunning. Alnwick has a castle and a very interesting garden. The National Trust Cragside is a Victorian house with the owner's inventions. You can go over to Lindisfarne island and get a boat to the Farne Islands and see seals and birds.

Román Bath and Bristol and the lovely countryside around.

North Wales mountains beaches and castles.

underneaththeash · 16/04/2021 21:45

@whiteroseredrose barely anything available near bam burgh this year sadly. All booked up. We travel up yearly to see MIL (we see her other times too), but she can’t pit us up, so we usually go for a week. Absolutely nothing available this year,

jakeyboy1 · 16/04/2021 21:54

South / central Wales between Monmouth and Cardiff is lovely. I want to do the Gower but not got there yet. Also find Wales significantly cheaper than other areas.

Devon - Bournemouth - Somerset - Cotswolds also all great and lots to do!

Newmama29 · 16/04/2021 22:04

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! Will look into them all & see what we can get Smile

I was planning on suggesting the west coast of Scotland 🤣

Ellmau · 17/04/2021 16:37

Dorset, Devon and Cornwall are all lovely.

Newmama29 · 17/04/2021 19:51

@amarya I think we’ve explored almost all of this area by now 😂

@Ellmau I would love to do Devon & Cornwall but I would think it’ll be absolutely packed this year with people not being able to travel abroad ☹️

OP posts:
Ellmau · 18/04/2021 11:45

You're probably right, I'm going to be one of them ;)

Hairyfairy01 · 18/04/2021 20:02

York.

Heronwatcher · 18/04/2021 20:09

I’d avoid Devon and Cornwall as I think this year they will be hellish. My suggestions would be Derbyshire (near the Peak District slightly off the beaten track though), Herefordshire and surrounds (lovely small towns like Ludlow and Ross on Wye), Somerset (near Wells) and Norfolk. All of these though I would stay away from the coast/ main tourist area seas and you should probably book soon!
