Driving along with police car behind me

I did not know here to post it. Am probably absolutely Aibu to worry?

I’m fairly newish driver in late 40s I would say not much confident.
I was driving yesterday from work.
A police car gave me a way on a busy roundabout and drove all the way behind me across quiet town where I live- about 3 miles- behind me all the way.
I was keeping the speed 30 ( got to 31 for a split of a second) but was nervous, thinking are they observing my driving, am I too slow, should I give way too oncoming vehicle in a narrow road if the vehicle was too still far..
Tell me I got nothing to worry about- as I said I don’t drive often, once a week maximum really.
I am now worry that I will get some fine for wrong kind of driving.
In the end I turned into my road and they kept driving but still.

Don’t worry it will just have been a coincidence. If they were going to fine you they would have stopped you.

Oh and I have been driving for years and still get nervous when there is a police car behind me even though I have never been stopped or fined for anything 😉

I very much doubt it, in the politest possibly terms I reckon they've got bigger fish to fry. Ii understand though it making you feel uneasy.

They just happened to be going the same way as you.

Literally nothing whatsoever to worry about. If they had concerns about your driving they’d have pulled you over.

I think you’re overthinking it. I’m sure they were just heading the same way as you.
Given all the really shitty drivers on the roads who never get in trouble you have nothing to worry about.
Most police aren’t interested in drivers and definitely wouldn’t pull you over for 31 in a 30.

Did you throw your stash out the window though? Might have roused their suspicions.

They would have pulled you over if they thought you were driving badly.

If they wanted to talk to you about anything you'd done wrong, they would have pulled you over. Dont worry about it, it was just a coincidence.

As I said I’m probably idiot thinking about it still, but I think can they have a cameras in that car a measure my speed which I kept( it’s 30 zone) well they enough time to pull up my details.
They had no blue lights on or anything.
At one point when I was to give a way to oncoming vehicle in tight road I misjudged it and went though- the oncoming car sped up so I had to break, the police had to do the same - drove behind me same ways they followed me the same way as I went- meaning they did not give the way to that oncoming car either.
I always worry about everything..

Best way to build your confidence is to do more driving. If you are a little nervous try getting up really early on a day when you don't have to work, to have a drive around before the traffic builds up

You'd have been pulled over if you were doing something wrong. Likely they were following you and running your plates to check insurance and such. Could have been just driving around and gone same way as you.

They joined me on big rounbound where they gave me a way. Just drove normally.

I'm a confident driver but I always feel a bit nervous when I have police behind me!

Unless you were driving at 30mph down a motorway, I doubt you would be pulled over for driving too slow.

Try to chill a bit. For what it’s worth, I am never a better, more law-abiding driver than when I’m being followed by a police car.

I don’t like it when a police car is behind me and I have been driving most days for many years! Doesn’t mean I need more practice or am a nervous driver.

They were just going in the same direction as you. Have you not had that with other cars which seem to follow you for miles and miles?

They’d have pulled you over if there was any concern about your speed and driving.

It’s happened to me a couple of times where a police car that just happened to be behind me pulled me over - once because I had light out (I got told to get it fixed) and once late at night and I did something a bit erratic by accident (they just had a quick word, deduced I hadn’t been drinking or anything and sent me on my way). Believe me they would have pulled you over if there was anything that concerned them.

I think everyone gets a bit self conscious when there's a police car behind you!

What part of that ‘event’ (which happens to every day, thousands of times) do you believe is something the police would be interested in?

Perhaps look into an advanced driving course, or done additional lessons to build your confidence up. This level of anxiety and confusion about what you can/cannot do when driving is not normal.

When I started driving I was given this advice - 'Drive as though a police car is behind you and your children are in the car in front.'

It sounds as though it was just a coincidence they drove behind you, if you've done nothing wrong you've nothing to worry about.

Ah I still get a bit freaked out when I see police even though I know I'm doing nothing wrong!

I got followed home once and they stopped when I parked - I was petrified but they were clearly checking their ANPR or something as they drove off eventually! I was shitting myself though

Remember: if you are stopped they can only charge you with an offence if they are in full uniform, so the first thing to do is knock their hat off and kick it under your car.

They were probably just going in the same direction as you!
