With the recent death of Prince Philip . Which is very sad of course . It got me thinking of David Attenborough . I think the world would be so lost without him and struggle to think of anyone who could match him in advocating for nature .
To me losing David Attenborough would be worse than losing Prince Philip .

Oooh celeb top trumps.

I see your David Attenborough and I raise you a Joanna Lumley.

Magnificentmug12 · 15/04/2021 21:17

Has*

espressoontap · 15/04/2021 21:17

I will be gutted when he passes away. He is an extraordinary man. Truly inspirational.

D of E - wouldn't say I'm sad as such but didn't know half of what he'd done / achieved until recently. I just thought he was a racist fool but have seen him in a different light. He had been looking like a walking corpse for the last few years so can't say I was surprised.

HollyWoodGurl · 15/04/2021 21:17

I don’t know either of them personally, so am not sad about DoE passing away, nor will I be about David Attenborough

Fembot123 · 15/04/2021 21:18

I think you are not bu as you are entitled to your preference, it’s not like you’ve said your happy he’s dead!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 15/04/2021 21:19

Try not to be devastated about a much loved 90-something person you don't know personally dying. It's not healthy.

Theshieldmaiden · 15/04/2021 21:19

Just " plain old nasty then " !!

GlassBoxSpectacular · 15/04/2021 21:20

@TiggerTiggerBounce

What a weird thread. It’s not some sort of macabre competition
Just what I was going to say.

Are you compiling some sort of grief measurement scale?

You can be as bothered or as unbothered as you like about the death of people you don’t know, because it makes no difference to anything whatsoever. 🤷‍♀️

ImpatiensI · 15/04/2021 21:21

What's going on here? Thread about Queen dying now thread about Attenborough dying. Stop!

starsparkle08 · 15/04/2021 21:21

I suppose I’m thinking along the lines I hope David gets the recognition he deserves . Hopefully this won’t be for a long time yet . He’s just such an amazing man

This just about sums it up for me.
SappysCurry · 15/04/2021 21:24

@Figgygal

It’s not a competition for ffs Philip was an early conservationist and president of WWF for years himself

Hmmmm?

LubaLuca · 15/04/2021 21:25

It's a weird thing to consider - which famous person's death will make me sadder than the death of Prince Philip? Or -imagine how sad I'll be when various people die.

Let's just not.

CeeJay81 · 15/04/2021 21:25

I agree with you. David Attenborough is incredible and I have so much respect for him. A nature documentary isn't the same without his voice.

I admit I am a bit anti royals. Nothing against each one of them personally but against the system.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 15/04/2021 21:25

Oh is it a competition? I didn't realise.

I see your David Attenborough and raise you June Brown.

I thought she was already dead!?
StillWeRise · 15/04/2021 21:26

The point surely is that most of us have benefited immeasurably from DAs work and I also think he has done a lot to persuade the mass public of the importance of the natural world- that we are part of it, not just observers/custodians of it.
The same can't be said of DoE, award schemes notwithstanding. Just in terms of reach- no one in my family- even my extended family- has ever done the DoE awards, but they have all watched a DA documentary.

Sparklingbrook · 15/04/2021 21:26

Oh, now the thread title is totally different we have to think of his successor. Confused

starsparkle08 · 15/04/2021 21:27

@TiggerTiggerBounce and @DuchessOfBuggerAll

What triggered me thinking of this was seeing a video of David on Facebook and I thought - the world would be so much less without you in it . He’s elderly and I would like him to live a long time but it’s also worrying as he has a big voice when it comes to conservation - his knowledge of animals is just outstanding

It's all very very strange.
SpringItIsThen · 15/04/2021 21:29

I don't feel anything either way - they don't know me, I don't know them.

I really do think the whole 'What happens if this famous person dies' trend is getting a bit insensitive, to say the least.

Sparklingbrook · 15/04/2021 21:29

It's a totally different question now. Confused
