AIBU to rid of all my 3 year old's toys?!

He has lots and they take up such much space but he doesn't play with them!

Well, maybe 5 toys at the most. Would I be unreasonable to get rid of them all and only keep the five he plays with? I know come his birthday and christmas relatives will but him more but we don't even have any room.

And is it normal for a three year old to not play with toys? Will he eventually?

He does play a lot but just not with actual toys.

Maybe instead of getting rid of them, hold them back/hide them somewhere for a specific period of time to see if he asks for them? Or perhaps check out toy rotation systems. Divide them up into some big storage boxes and rotate them weekly to see if he will play with them like that? Sometimes too much choice can be overwhelming!

I agree with Coffee, try dividing them and rotating the boxes.

Both of mine had their favourite toys and didn't really touch anything else but sods law, you get rid and in a few months they decide that the toy you threw away is the one they want!

Too much choice is overwhelming.

Yes if you have the space to store then try putting 3/4 away and do some toy rotation for a bit. You could observe what he is interested in at the moment then pick out the next set of toys that would work for that interest, keeping out a few bits that he plays with all the time. My 2.5 year old is similar, he mostly likes playing with measuring tapes and torches, or toys I get out for his baby sister. He has piles of toys he doesnt touch, or just chucks everywhere, and I need to put away for a bit.

We do rotation but I've also seen this:
