AIBU Would you pay £20 for a 30 minute kids swimming lesson?

Keen to book swimming lessons for DS and DD - stage 1 and stage 4.

Lessons are in a local school pool with 4 children in a class.
£20 for 30 minute lesson...13 lessons this term so being asked to pay £260 per child, so £520 upfront for the term in total.

I have to supply youngest child with their own pool noodle and kick board - no shared equipment due to covid. Showers out of use due to covid...slightly run down facilities but good pool.

YABU - that cost is fine
YANBU - it's extortionate

Private health club down the road charges £12 for a group lesson with 5 kids in a class. Sadly, they don't have availability on the days I can do.

Tbh that's about the going rate round here. A ratio of 1:4 is really good though, we used to pay similar for 1:10

Wow we pay about £24 a month for a half hour lesson every Saturday. There’s about 6/7 kids in each lesson (more pre covid) and we only have to supply the kid, goggles and swimming costume.

I paid similar or only a couple of pounds more for 1-1. Group lessons are cheaper round here but a lot more in a group

Here it is £14 for a group lesson (8 kids, 20 minutes) or £20 for one-to-one (30 minutes).

YANBU that it is expensive but unfortunately it's how much it seems to cost.

Our local leisure centre classes are £26.50 a month and run every week except Easter and Christmas. The classes have up to 8 in them but tbh there are rarely over 5 attending.

We are paying £13.50 for 30 mins in a group of 6 with a large national franchise and quality of the pools is generally ok to very good as they have a lot of different sites, ranges from school pools to hotel health clubs to a private pool in someone’s house, so I would say that £20 for an okish site is quite expensive but depends on the area I guess.

I pay £18 a month. Ratio is a bit higher but some weeks only a few kids show up anyway.

I think ours works out at £15 per lesson (one child only though) through one of the main franchises. Purpose built super clean pool for teaching only and max 5 to a lesson.

Around here that's about the price for a 1:1 lesson and you wouldn't be expected to provide anything more than goggles.

There's no way I would pay that much for a group lesson, is there anyone else who could take them on the available days at the private health club?

I wouldn’t pay that price for group classes but I have done for 1:1 sessions.

Get on the waiting list for the cheaper place.

I'm central London and its almost £20 a month for weekly 30 minute session (ratio 1:6 though). I could have 1:1 lessons for what you are paying OP.

It’s the going rate for private companies offering lessons, but I sent DC to Better swim lessons which were about £5 for 30 mins in a group of about 8. Both DC are in school squad and regularly compete at borough level so they’ve worked well for us.

£33 a month for mine - 4 kids per class and all equipment included (London) runs all year except for a week at Christmas so I think it works out about £7.75 a lesson.
Our changing rooms are open too.

Jeez no way. I pay about £8 a session for the same thing.
