Where can I get non-AZ vaccine
Landladymews2 · 14/04/2021 13:28
Hi
I’m in my 30s and eligible for the vaccine due to an underlying condition but upon discussion with the nurse I might not be suitable for AZ but I can’t find out where to get the other one. My GP said they can’t help me and 119 said they can’t help me. They keep referring me to each other! Any advice?

Where I am the big NHS vaccination centres are doing AZ and GPs have set up smaller centres with Pfizer.
I would have thought your GP should be organising this for you. It could be they don't know when they will be getting more stocks, I would keep trying your surgery.

I've seen a few places mentioned in the media because they've been taking pics of people getting the Moderna jab.
Our local paper did an article online mentioning that our vaccination centre has no Moderna but a town 20 miles away does so if I was eligible and wanted Moderna then I'd try that way.

@RedGoldAndGreene thanks, the link doesn’t work but I can see the media have mentioned Reading and Sheffield. Reading is an hour away from me so I guess I can see if I can get an appointment there. 119 were pretty useless. This is the sort of information they should have available.

The centres do not know what they are getting till it arrives, Pfzier is being used as first priority for 2nd doses. All those I know who can't have the AZ for medical reasons, ie 16-18 year olds with underlying conditions have also been prioritised, locally we had a massive Pfzier weekend.
I would say the GP surgery is the people who need to sort it for you.

Surely it's not up to a nurse to make that decision - they are probably just speculating. Speak to your GP about your specific condition. Otherwise just make an appointment and presumably they will ask you the standard screening questions when you get there.
Out of interest what groups other than healthy under 30s are being advised against the AZ vaccine?
GrumpyHoonMain · 14/04/2021 23:01
You need to speak to someone who is an expert about your condition as all the vaccines have some form of risk if you have a autoimmune / clotting risk factor; but Covid infection usually trumps them all. Not through the risk of death but risk of long term disability through Severe and Long Covid.

When you say you had discussions with 'the nurse', what do you mean, who is this nurse? She said you 'might not be suitable'? On what grounds? Surely someone that is qualified to be able to comment would say you definitely are or definitely aren't not 'might not'. It may be that your GP and 119 are not able to help because there's no reason for you to specify which jab you have?

The condition I have is extremely rare. My consultant neurologist told me that there is very little research into it so there are a lot of unknowns and they are unable to provide much advice. It’s a cerebrovascular condition and it seems like people have had blood clots in the brain which is why I flagged it to the nurse who was speaking to people before they went in for the jab.
