To have a question about universal credit.

Dh started a new job yesterday, finished his old job Friday so no gap in employment or change in wage. He made the decision to switch companies as there is more room for advancement at the new place try and better himself so we aren't reliant on universal credit. My question is do I need to report the change of employer? You did when we were on old tax credit system and so how does one go about doing this?

DH needs to log into his UC account and report the change in two parts. One leaving old job and two starting new job. You couldn't do it before as you can't enter anything in the future on UC.
It's straightforward to do.

The wages haven't changed but his pay cycle has, currently weekly but moving to monthly paid on the last day of the month. Due to the change in when he's paid and moving mid month and having to work two weeks in hand in his now job he won't be paid his first wage until May 31st which will be a full month. Our April 20th - May 19th assessment period will only have one weeks take home pay in it, how will this effect entitlement? Thanks to anybody that knows the answer.

They will take it on the actual pay he receives in the relevant period. If he only receives one weeks pay in that time then he will get extra UC at the end of the period.

It doesn't matter when you earn the money, it just matters when you receive it.

Forgot to say. If your DH has a look at his earlier months payments it says something like:-

What we take off (deductions)

Take-home pay -£yyy

Earnings reported by your employer £x,xxx

Your total take-home pay for this period is £x,xxx

Every £1.00 you earn in take-home pay reduces your Universal Credit by 63 pence.

So, just put in the figures for the current period with one weeks pay and multiply by 0.63. This will give you how much they will take off your total entitlement before deductions.

It is important for DH to report the change as UC find out his earnings through HMRC real-time information

Burnt0utMum · 13/04/2021 15:50

Yeah he needs to report the change. It should only take a few mins to do online.
