To feel like this about my body?

I have been diagnosed in the last few years with an under active thyroid which I am on medication for, I have been overweight to some degree for most of my life.
The medication I take has not had any affect on my weight (and little effect on most other symptoms, recently the dose has been increased) .
I guess I know I am unreasonable but I see friends and colleagues tucking into delicious food seemingly without a care in the world and still remaining slim/healthy, I have to restrict calories, fat and sugar to even maintain my weight. To lose weight I almost have to starve myself (not exaggerating at all, friends can't believe how little I have to eat to lose even a pound!)
I am averagely active but just so sick of thinking about every morsel that goes in my mouth...aibu?
**@Lassy1945* & @EdinaMonsoon* do you have a thyroid condition at all? Sometimes the lethargy is unbelievable, did I mention i also have a full time job and two children? 15 minutes a day is not so easy as it should be!
Yes
I have an under active thyroid
As said above

Lassy1945 · 13/04/2021 17:24

I take my levo the second I wake
Then gives me a least an hour before my coffee
It works

Lassy1945 · 13/04/2021 17:26

It has been a journey with ends though

Briefly on too much was the worst. I became dangerously underweight with a BMI of under 17 and felt constantly anxious
Dropping to 100 made just a difference
75 too low though

I'm in the obese and struggling to lose category too, OP. GP keeps my levels low. I feel rubbish. I have Fibro as well and just don't know whether there's anything else I should be doing.
Activity wise, I do an hour tai chi and a 40+min dog walk every week day. At weekends a longer walk and a session of strength training on the wii.

I can't do more. I just can't. I'm struggling to eat less. 🤷🏼‍♀️

JustGiveMeGin · 13/04/2021 18:06

@picklemewalnuts yeah, I know exactly what you mean! Well meaning advice is great but every now and again I just want to wallow like the hippo I am in my own misery before carrying on doing the right thing....

We can wallow together, Gin! I don't drink or smoke, eat very little processed food. I eat lots of veg. I am gently active. If I do anything energetic I injure myself, hence tai chi! Slow and strong.
Food is a pleasure I'm cutting back on, and watching others contentedly tucking in without a care is frustrating!

I'm doing various self care at the moment. Skincare, hand cream etc. Who knows, maybe I'll perk up.

I have hashimotos (my immune system is attacking my thyroid), diagnosed just after having my child. Waited 15 years for a diagnosis after my tsh being all over the place from young.

I know how you feel on the weight and tiredness. It’s unbelievable how little I have to eat to maintain/lose, and I have always been pissed off about it. It actually caused an eating disorder.

Big suggestion, look into natural thyroid. I felt awful on levothyroxine, full of inflammation. I would rather go without then take that stuff.

berryhead2013 · 13/04/2021 20:04

Hey don't give up it's still sounds like you early days in your diagnosis can take 6-8 weeks for a dose change to have any effect if at all
I've been there it hopefully will get better sending hugs as the fatigue is unreal and feels like trudging through mud x

berryhead2013 · 13/04/2021 20:10

And they are loathe to test t3 and reverse t4 and antibodies and all other tests where I am and they would never prescribe t3 where I am either
There is a website called medichecks they do private blood tests via mail they have a thyroid Thursday I think where it's a bit cheaper take the results to your go and they may help x

JustGiveMeGin · 13/04/2021 20:37

@picklemewalnuts haha, yay a friend to wallow with Grin
Good to know about those websites, especially the possibility of the private blood tests, something to start looking into definitely x

What is your T3 in recent blood tests?

If you're on levo and T3 is too low you will feel crappy. I have a conversion problem (can't convert T4 to T3) so levo would do sweet fuck all for me, so I take natural dessicated thyroid that contains bioavailable T3.

I am not sure if UK doctors will prescribe NDT but if they don't, and your T3 is low they can definitely add in a synthetic T3 (can't remember what it's called).

JustGiveMeGin · 13/04/2021 21:05

@AbsentmindedWoman I have no idea, all my doctor tells me when I ask is that I'm within the normal range. I think once I get my next set of bloods done I need to get a full breakdown so I can spend some time in Google and work things out!

picklemewalnuts · 13/04/2021 21:10

Gin, my GP receptionist emailed me my last blood results, which was handy. They'll probably do it if you ask. I can't say I made anything out of them, mind!

MrsBobDylan · 13/04/2021 22:01

Do you track and log all the calories you eat op and weigh out your portions?

While the low thyroid will make weight loss harder, it is certainly not impossible.

Come over to the weight loss boards, lots of friendly advice and support there.

IHateWinter88 · 13/04/2021 22:26

I'm a healthy weight, higher end of healthy BMI, but work so so hard to maintain it. And I don't tell people that because I find it embarrassing to admit how much exercise I have to do and how I have to control my food just to look average. Unfortunately, you have to make exercise a priority. It has to come above some of the children's needs and above work sometimes. It's the only way.

JustGiveMeGin · 14/04/2021 07:34

I will make sure that I get a copy of my results from the GP. I am also going to look at the natural supplements once I have those results.
I will try and squeeze extra exercise in where I can (hopefully if I get the meds on track I will have more energy to do stuff)
Thanks Everyone x
