to be furious at the woman who upset my dad

my dad was in the supermarket this morning and was behind a woman in the queue. Her baby was smiling at my dad so he smiled back and made some general baby 'hello' sounds to him. at which the woman shouted in front of a busy store 'f-off you paedo'. now i know people have to be careful, but he hadn't even touched the kid or anything, was just keeping him occupied in the queue. GRRR!

well, doesn't she sound like a lovely lady?

I hope your Dad is OK, what a horrible thing to happen.

What a revolting woman - imagine the message that her poor child will be getting - that it needs to be terrified of any other adult who speaks to him/her.

Your dad sounds lovely

'a single mum who claims benefits'????
so, they're the only people prey to this hysteriaare they? Let's NOT start abusing whole sections of society and making prejudiced assumptions. Let's just say well done that man.

I think she's 'jokingly' referring to the other thread...

That is a really sad story. But somehow not surprising.

Sorry for your dad.

Thats so sad, my DD2 (10mths) was smiling at the old gentlemen in the newsagents on friday and he smiled back, she has just started saying hello. I said something like, say hello DD2 and she didnt of course cause they never do on que, and he turned around and said "you shouldnt teach her to talk to strange men she doesnt know"!

WTF so now we can't teach our children to say hello to people??

I just thought it was sooo sad that he had told me off

If I had been there I'm afraid I would have said something to the unpleasant woman.

By the way, isn't it illegal - slander - to publicly say this?

nametaken - i was thinking just that as i read through the thread
although the op's dad doesn't sound like the kind of guy who'd take it further
i would've been straight in there - the ridiculous woman!

Anyone standing there with half a brain would have thought "Oh my God, a complete nutcase is shouting at that poor man! I hope she doesn't get violent!"

My dd2 is always cooing and smiling at people and I love it. DD1 was distinctly anti-social at her age! I'd hate to think that men thought they couldn't smile and talk to her for fear if being labelled a pervert. Very sad

My husband had something similar recently. He was early picking our son up from school and was waiting for them to come out. The other children were playing in the yard. A man came over the road and told him he shouldn't be standing there! What a shame peoples first thoughts are so nasty these days.
