£25 GP note - WIBU to ask work to pay?

Work required me to provide a GP note for an issue at work. It cost me £25 and honestly it's a lot of money to lose (I get £9.60/hour, for context)

Would I be unreasonable to ask work to pay all or some of the cost?

What was the issue, did it require time off? What does your contract say about providing sick notes?

Scrunchies · 10/04/2021 11:50

Completely reasonable. I’m a gp and quite often say to patients to get work to specifically write to us to ask themselves (and therefore pay), altho you will need to give consent. Quite often the company don’t bother with the extra effort or money and the requirement magically goes away.

Yes, reasonable for work to pay. We have to issue GP requests regularly for safety critical roles and we write the request and pay the invoice.

Thank you. It's not a sick note but a GP note. I'm severely claustrophobic and work want us to wear both masks and visors. I can cope with a mask but the visors are too much (believe me, I've tried. After the third panic attack I decided it wasn't a good idea to keep trying!)

I'm behind screens and wear a mask too so am complying with government advice.

Do you not have an OH department? Usually when reasonable adjustments are requested on medical grounds an assessment with OH would be enough to determine whether than it is considered reasonable without needing to access GP information.

Yes I think your employer should pay if this is not in the terms of your original employment,

I had a manager who kept ringing me at weekends and evenings when mobile phones first came out. I turned mine off when I got home. When he complained I told him that if they wanted me to answer the phone out of hours the employer would have to make a contribution to the rental. No more was heard of it.

Nothing in the contract about it. I've emailed my business manager about it.

Thank you!
