Neighbours CCTV weirding me out - AIBU

At some point during 2020 some neighbors (not next door) decided to put up 3 CCTV cameras on the front of their house. I thought this was a bit overkill considering we live in a very quiet area & they don’t own any valuable vehicles etc. But each to their own. I’ve just noticed they’ve put up a camera doorbell, a webcam pointing out their master room window and an additional one at the side of the house. This means there’s 6 cameras in total - I have no idea how many they have round the back. AIBU to think this a bit weird? My parents know them quite well & they don’t have valuables (to my knowledge). Can understand wanting a cctv camera pointing into your garden but this is weird IMO. You can easily tell they’re not just pointed in their driveway, but pointing out into different areas of the street.

I bet if something happened on your street you’d be straight knocking on their door for the CCTV though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hmm maybe slightly overkill but it may be that they have very bad anxiety and it helps them with that. Are they definitely on? Our neighbours have a fake CCTV camera as a deterrent. We also live in a quiet area, nice street etc but have a doorbell camera for deliveries and a floodlit secure camera in the back garden because we've had bikes stolen. It's reasonable imo.

Could it be criminal activity? We once had neighbyors like this and they used them to get a heads up when police/other suspicious people were around. They never once got caught.

You & all you neighbours can complain.
There are strict rules around CCTV and it sounds like these people are breaking them.
It is totally illegal to have cameras looking into your house. If you think that this is the case yhe onus on them is to prove it is not.
You can also request that any footage with your family in it is destroyed and not held under any circumstances (as can anyone who thinks they are caught on the CCTV)
The ICO has lots of info on CCTV & GDPR.

I have suffered the consequences of multiple aggressive burglaries in my life and do not feel safe alone at home never have never will, could it be they have similar issues?
I have cctv, doorbell cctv, & extra locking security everywhere & still don't sleep comfortably due to my past.

Maybe they have a cannabis factory in their loft. lol
Quite shocking how many people have been caught doing this.

My PIL have loads like that. They both have mobility issues and have 2 dogs. It makes them feel better knowing they're there.one points out showing their front garden but also shows the street and you can see front of the neighbours homes. No idea if the neighbours know or if they would mind.
