I live in a flat and by chance all my neighbours are musicians. We all get on but have little to do with each other and I'll often hear a guitar playing which I actually quite like.

Right now though upstairs is playing and has a female guest who is singing, badly. I'm not going to complain, I'll put headphones in but I'm trying to work. Aibu to think this is really off to be doing at 1am though? Angry

Complain

Sparklfairy · 08/04/2021 01:01

I wont complain. I like my neighbours and accept noise as part of living in a flat. I'm sure I've bugged them before. It's just hard to concentrate and would be impossible to sleep.

Maybe if she could carry a tune it wouldn't be so bad Grin

Its 1am, complain! Its so so far from unreasonable. It's late to be working too hop you are managing

Remaker · 08/04/2021 01:05

Oh god not at 1am! If it’s a one off then I can understand putting up with it for the sake of neighbourly relations. We had a couple living next door who once a year used to have a huge party that went all night. We just put up with it because I can guarantee that our kids were noisy and annoying a lot more than once a year and they never complained. If it starts to become a regular thing then I’d complain.

Could you knock on the door and ask if the cat is okay....? (Only half joking, the converted flat where we live now is generally pretty quiet - apart from tone deaf trance music man over the way every now and then - but thst hasn't always been the case...)

Haha! Grin I live in the city centre so am used to general noise 24/7, but it's dead quiet with lockdown. I used to be a singer myself so I'm probably jealous noticing it more. It's the way hes tapping his foot hard on the ceiling to keep time as well.

They're normally so good. I dont hear much from him apart from heavy footed moving around and the odd noodling from an acoustic which is actually quite nice. I'm just surprised that anyone would think it reasonable to be even playing spotify at 1am in a flat.

Yeah it’s a bit off at this time if I’m being honest but after all the silence with lock down I don’t know if it would really bother me and it’s the school holidays and my 11 year old has only just fell asleep so who am I to criticise .

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 08/04/2021 01:15

I feel your pain, although I had to listen to badly sung karaoke because I live next to a pub. I'm hoping that it won't be a thing once they reopen.

GreenSlide · 08/04/2021 01:16

YANBU. I'm going up to bed now to listen to my next door neighbours tv blaring literally all night long through the wall.

Canigooutyet · 08/04/2021 01:18

I liked my old neighbours. Didn't stop me from going and banging on their door at stupid o'clock and tell them to shut the fuck up. Nor did it stop me from blasting music early in the morning to wake them up after disturbing my sleep yet again.
Didnt stops the tenants association from taking further steps and them eventually having them evicted for the noise disturbance.

avamiah · 08/04/2021 01:21

GreenSlide,
No way.
Are you Serious ?
All night ?
You cannot put up with that.
How long has this been going on ?

DYWMB · 08/04/2021 01:32

People are such dicks.
1am.
Yeah I'll badly sing, you tap your foot on the floor.
I know we live in a flat but who cares. Not us.

Strange isn't it. I'm always so conscious of making a noise and disturbing people. I've just bought a rebounder trampoline to lose weight and although it makes no sound at all, my feet don't leave the mat when I bounce and there's no one living below me I've been paranoid that somehow it'll annoy the neighbours Grin

I think they've finished now. It sounds like they've had a recording session because I can hear repetitive playback of just her voice, but it's quiet so I can put up with that.

DYWMB,
Totally agree with you .
I’m all for getting on with neighbours but not to the point were they are effecting your life .

GreenSlide · 08/04/2021 01:42

Yeah. I think he might fall asleep with the tv on. Tbh I don't think he realises I can hear it, it's not that loud but it is irritating droning on in the background. This is maybe a couple of nights a week. I have earplugs for when I really can't stand it anymore!
DYWMB · 08/04/2021 01:46

I'm conscious of the noise I make. I just don't get people who aren't.

avamiah · 08/04/2021 02:04

GreenSlide,
Oh ok I get you .
Is he elderly or just a bit deaf ?
That’s so understanding of you to put ear plugs in, not many people would do that .
X

Purplemist · 08/04/2021 07:36

Totally inconsiderate. I used to think the walls in my house were quite thick. They aren't, the houses either side had single occupants, both of them elderly men.

New neighbours moved in on one side, first of all diy late at night then parties going on until 3.00/4.00 a.m.

Elderly man on the other side moved out. Had to put up with builders renovating for several months then new people moved in about a year ago and building work still hasn't stopped!

I feel self conscious about the volume of my tv goodness knows why!
