To ask for help with night cloth nappies

My 2.5 year old is in cloth nappies, always has been and we've been really happy with our system until recently.
I guess as older and doing 'bigger wees' we've had to add extra boosters and change more often, which during the day is not an issue.
It's night times. We're up to using 3 hemp/bamboo blend boosters, a terrys soaker and a fleece liner! I can't put any more in my pocket nappies either in the pocket or on top as not sealing round the legs due to the bulk.
1 out of three nights we're having to change the toddler's nappy, pjs and the bed in the middle of the night.
How do other cloth nappy parents out there handle this? What do you use at night?
I think little one is almost ready for potty training but I know night-time dryness could be several years off still.
I would rather not spend a lot on a lot of new nappies at this point. Any ideas on how I can adapt what we're doing? Add more over the nappy and a massive wrap over the whole thing? Wrap the whole pocket nappy in a Terry square, I have some for emergencies? Cloth night pull ups, although ones I've seen don't look very absorbant so would need boosters anyways?
I'm just completely over middle of the night bed strip just because the nappy has leaked!

My dd used Terry nappies for her 2 children including when they went to nursery, as greener. I know she also struggled as children got to about 20 months. She used waterproof sheet under cot sheet and then placed a large absorbent paper that was actually a puppy training pad on top of that under cot sheet. This at least protected the mattress. I know in the end she relented and used a Pamper nappy as did not want child to get nappy rash. As it happened they both became dry in day by 2 years and one child also dry at night by 27 months the other 32 months. She used to take them to toilet before bed and tell them to shout if they needed toilet in the night. Don't give water based drink after 6pm. She gave only milk after 6pm and child in bed between 7 and 7.30pm. I know she focused upon getting them dry so had to use less Pampers.

Motherease airflow wraps are basically tsunami proof, you could get some in an XL and just put it over top what you already have?

We used pocket nappies in the daytime and needed a bamboo booster at that age. But no way would they have managed at night. Disposables leaked at night when we used them on holiday. At night we used a two-part system. Tots-Bots Bamboozles (size two I think) with an extra booster then a Motherease Airflow wrap on top. That went 12 hours and never leaked (used till she turned 3 and was dry at night). If we'd needed more absorbency we could have added more boosters inside the nappy or between the nappy and the wrap.

I find pocket nappies to be useless at night. I use a little lamb bamboo nappy with a bamboo booster and fleece liner with a wool cover. Seems to work for us.

Welshmaenad · 07/04/2021 11:19

I wouldn't be using pockets at night for a toddler. Boosted fitted (bamboo Little Lamb maybe) with a decent wrap (airflow or a blueberry one if you can still get them!) or a wool cover.

Yes you need a 2 parter and then boost between the nappy and wrap.

Go for a larger size air wrap so there is more room for boosting.

As it's for night time you only need say 3 nappies and one wrap and just use the usual boosters.

I was thinking either easy peasy eco bumble with nippa or perhaps get a few toddler sized nippa ones. To make them fit smaller put the booster on the outside and fold the front of the nappy down on itself. They would probably fit up to age 4/5 I reckon for overnight.

We never rated pockets at night. We found that the more you stuffed them, the bigger the gap at the legs.

Two parters were what worked for us. We loved Wee Notions Night Notions with a Night Notions wrap. But this was 6 years ago so I don't know if you can still buy them.

However, to echo what others have said. A boosted fitted plus a decent wrap. And then I put fleece or wool over the wrap too just for that extra bit of protection. DS2 never liked a blanket or sleeping bag so I used to put him in a fleece onesie with feet so he was warm. Or if he was wearing his longies, then socks and layers on top.

Second the vote for Bamboozles and a Motherease wrap. That was my go to day and night when the DC were newborns and they were bombproof. Should have just sized up when they got older but had my head turned by the pretty WNs (which were excellent to be fair).

Motherease Duo with your existing booster (might not be needed) bombproof.

Pockets at night didn’t work for us either once he was over a year.
