To ask about gender inequality in relation to nipple censorship?

In 2021, a time of so much advancement in so many areas of life, I'm here to talk about the nipple. It really sounds utterly ridiculous to even have to bring this topic up - but I feel it necessary.

Yes, I know that over the past one hundred plus years, women's nipples have been sexualised, fetishised and seen as crude/lewd/indecent in public. However, I've looked online and I can't seem to see a justification as to why men are allowed to parade down their local High Street and nip into their local Tesco with their nipples out if a woman can't? Similarly, If my boyfriend posted a topless picture on Instagram, it would be seen as normal. If I did so, it would be banned.

I know I'm probably asking an age old question, but I can't helping feeling angry at the inequality of it, and feel that it's still not talked about nearly enough.

Anyone care to discuss?

You're right, it is infuriating.

Soubriquet · 06/04/2021 16:17

It’s purely because women’s boobs are sexualised and can not be seen by any man incase it triggers his lust

There's a sign gone up on the coop door reminding customers that it's no shirt no entry and swimwear is no suitable (by the beach). Most shops aren't keen on topless men either

Shops aren't Keen on topless men either.

A women's cleavage is a throwback from our monkey days where we use to raise our backsides to attract a mate. Men haven't evolved that much I don't think.

I was just coming on to say something similar. I wish the "no shirtless men" policy was adopted in more public places, even if only on hygeine grounds.

Not to mention the horror should a tiny flash of nipple occur during breastfeeding thereby a mother should never dare feed her baby in public. Instead she must go to the toilet or hide herself and baby under a cloth.

I saw a man walk into Sainsburys on Tuesday with no shirt on; he didn't get stopped. A few frowns perhaps. Imagine if I did that?!

It is true. I do so hate seeing men topless in the street though. I wouldn't mind that being banned as well!

Nighthogs · 06/04/2021 16:27

@blackkittykat Absolutely agree. Sadly though, some of the contempt towards public breastfeeding comes from women too!

So what's the answer? Ban men's nipples or make women's nipples socially acceptable?

Naunet · 06/04/2021 17:16

I think men walking around without a top on is gross personally (unless at the beach of course). I’d rather men had to cover up, than women be allowed to walk around Sainsbury’s topless too.

I often think about this cartoon, seems apt here.
