Pfizer vaccine & period?

Hi

I had my first pfizer shot at the end of Feb and a normal period early March.

I'm now due again and have had a very unusual month!! I had no water retention in my legs, no cravings, in fact low appetite, no oily hair or skin as usual in the two weeks leading up to my period.

I have had period like cramps for two days now, although much lighter than usual. The thing is I don't bleed...there is only brown spotting which is very, very light. I'm waiting for the gush of blood....but maybe it won't come?

Could this be vaccine related?

It is very unusual for me to not come on like clockwork.

It's been great without any pms. This must be what men feel like? Each day is the same? Your body, hair and skin don't change every month? It's easy to stick to a diet too.

Oh, the only thing I did have as usual were nights sweats, but they were also much lighter.

I’ve heard lots of women saying their vaccination has knocked out their cycle so it could be why your period is late.

Oh I never made that connection. I had the AZ vaccine last week. My period is late (defo not pregnant) but I’ve had symptoms. It’s really annoying.

The thing is it feels like I'm on it due to the cramps. I never have them without bleeding.

I suppose I'm hoping it will still come. Don't want a double whammy next month.

I thought it was just me! I had my second dose less than a month ago ago my period this month has been suspiciously light and non painful!

Had jab on Friday, period started on Sunday as expected.

Having the jab will make no difference to your menstrual cycle - they are completely different bodily systems. Stressing about the vaccine, however, may have an effect.

I didn't know vaccines could have this effect. I just had a quick google and anecdotal data seems to suggest the vaccine is making some women's periods more heavy, not lighter.

I'm not stressing about the vaccine ffs. I have had it six weeks ago.

Wow. Makes me look forward to my second dose

mind you, my first dose wiped me out for two days so it is only fair that I don't 'period suffer' as much.

My delay is defo not linked to vaccine stress. I was delighted to get my first jab. Can’t wait for the second. Looking at holidays online.

I had my second dose just over a month ago. Came in as normal but flow was lighter and took ages to get going.

My period is late this month.

My period was all over the place after my first Pfizer jab too

It could be that the physical stress (were you ill afterwards?) has caused you to have an anovulatory cycle.

The vaccines are still in trials and may effect fertility. I would not be taking it as a good thing that its messing up your periods!

This happened to me with AZ so bollocks is it related to stress. Just that women’s health isn’t a factor in medical testing I also had big hormonal lumps in both breasts!

This is not true. Any physical or mental distress can interfere with your cycle.

Oh that’s weird. My period was two weeks late and I didn’t even connect it to the jab.

Sure you’re not pregnant OP? The period like cramps with light spotting sound like what I went through in early pregnancy.

I'm def. not pregnant.

I suppose I would be concerned about hormonal side effects if I still wanted to get pregnant, but this month was just such a rare glimpse into life without hormones changing you every month - it honestly felt great.

It would be scandalous if such side effects were suppressed in the trials. Even though trials are still going on I feel we should be made aware if there is a connection. After all, everyone knows about possible chills and headaches. I want to write to the Daily Mail now.

Op if you've not already, you should totally report it on the yellow card system. That's how they investigate and correlate these things.

I got the AstraZeneca the day I came on, and I had so many blood clots! Then they released the worries about clotting a couple of weeks later. I had been using the app to report on health post app but hadn’t connected the two until afterwards. I would love to know if other women felt they passed more period clots than usual. My period is due again now and it’s been weird - spotting for the week beforehand.

I thought by blood clots they meant those in the bloodstream causing strokes etc.

The blood clots you describe sound hormonal, and if vaccines can mess up your hormonal system I suppose it can happen.

I generally get a lot of blood clots, but the size etc. varies every month.
