To leave the teaching profession?

I have been a teacher for 10 years. I don't really like it anymore. I like the teaching and many other parts, but I hate working every evening and weekend and being in school until
5 or 6 most evenings as well as meetings until 8 or so once every few weeks. (Senior management member). I also hate the pressure (which many jobs have I know) and the constant observations and threat of ofsted. (Non teachers will be rolling their eyes, I know!)

I have small children. The eldest will be starting school soon

I have found an opportunity for work I feel I would enjoy, however the only thing holding me back is not having the school holidays, especially when having young children

Has anyone left teaching and the holidays? Did you regret it?

Thanks

@bouncealot what is online supply? I'm wondering because I'm also a teacher looking for alternatives to FT.

I'm a very experienced primary teacher now working as a HLTA. The money is terrible and we just about get by financially, but the job is actually about the kids and I get time for my own. No regrets.

Leave!

Could you try working 4 days and using day 5 for your work so your evenings and weekends are free to be with the children. Could you cope on the money? If you could I'd recommend part time teaching. It really does help make the workload more manageable.

I would struggle to give up my holidays with the kids if I'm honest.

I teach English through some of the National Tutoring Programme providers. I also have TEFL so the whole world is available 😀

That's what my daughter has done. She was close to handing in her notice, but her head values her highly and offered a four day permanent contract in order to keep her. She uses most of her day off to do planning and assessment, in order to free up the bulk of her weekend. She was surprised to find that her monthly salary didn't take as much of a hit as she expected, and she's now happy to stay in the job.
