Ds is 3. Nursery is 1.4 miles away. Can get the bus in morning but after will need to walk back. Have baby too. Oh thinks I'll need a buggy board
Aibu to think he can walk that distance?
What could yours do at that age?

Our first choice of school for DD is 1.3 miles away. She'll be a young 4 when she goes and I'm expecting us to walk it most of the time but in bad weather I will be able to use the car.

She's a good walker though and we walk a couple of miles a day just in the course of a normal day so she's used to it.

How about doing it by bike? Then you won't need the bus in the morning as can cycle there (probably quicker than the bus). Depends how little the baby is though... We have a 2.4 year age gap and used sling for toddler as back carrying with babies (twins) in buggy. Is easier to push buggy with child on back rather than front.

A 3 year old could walk 1.5 miles. If nursery is a half day and you collect at 12, I’d think it’s fine to walk, BUT if it’s a full day in nursery, get a buggy board to make your life easier. I remember having to walk the dc places in the cold, wet and dark and it was horrendous. Lovely on a summers evening, when you could take your time, but in December when it’s dark and torrentially raining it’s no fun at all. (I remember putting 1 and 3 year old in the double buggy and 5 year old on the board sometimes to make the journey quicker, so I didn’t have to listen to them crying they were cold and tired).

If you want to make your day difficult, long winded and knackering, let them walk. More sensible to have an alternative ready though for those days when none of you are in the mood.

We had a 1.5 mile walk to nursery and no car, both DC were able to walk for ages and to nursery but used the pushchair until 4/4.5 for atleast half the ride home as they were knackered from running around!

Definitely recommend a sling/buggy board at that stage.

Our DS can walk that far but my goodness, the griping was unbelievable. So we got a buggy that could take two of them just to save my ears!

What kind of pram do you have? My son could stand on the bar, we had a buggy board but found it ackward as had to push to the side. He definitely stood on the pram a lot at 3- 4.5 for long walks if i wanted him close in shops it was really handy. Daughter now wants carried refuses buggy and won't walk so wish had buggy board type option now 😂.

We've just got a wee pram. I might just stretch to a double stroller. Baby will not tolerate the sling at all

I would most definitely have a buggy board. You could get a fold down scooter and encourage him to use that wherever possible but that's a long walk for little legs after a morning at school.
