To wonder why the hell the window cleaner would come on a Bank Holiday?

Just that really. Sitting here minding my own business and the dog starts going mad, hear someone coming around the back. Get up to have a look and realise it’s the window cleaner. They always just let themselves in so that’s not an issue, but it’s a Bank Holiday and I obviously didn’t expect them so have no cash on hand to pay them! Now I think about it when I was out for my walk on Friday I saw them then (same company) cleaning windows a few streets away. So they were out cleaning on Good Friday as well.

Obviously it’s not a massive problem, but it seems a bit random for them to rock up on the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend when they could just come tomorrow or any other time. Also lots of people will be actually sitting in their gardens, kids playing etc when they arrive and surely it’s awkward to work around that?

Easter Sunday is the only day of the year that large shops have to close, apart from Christam.

My dad was a window cleaner and he often worked on bank holidays to get his round done around his other job as a firefighter.

In England.

In Scotland there are not the same trading laws. Shops here were open 8-8 yesterday as usual.

Large shops have to close on just two days of the year.Christmas day and Easter Sunday. They will all open as long as they can today to make up the lost trade. As an ex self employed town centre retailer, bank holidays were a right pita. If it was sunny, we may as well have stayed closed the number of people we saw. If the staff came in on the day it was double time, so we always did the day with no staff, kids would sit in the back with toys or books, or I would take the chance to nip out for clothes shopping for them. personally, I would cancel all BHs and add the time into annual holiday entitlement.

I cant see why he wouldn't work today. Bank Holidays are just normal working days for lots of people these days. All our public holidays except Christmas & New Year were dropped & converted to annual leave.

I presume then you were happy to pay him if he didnt turn up then?

@CheekyWeeShite

Because they’re self employed and can’t afford to skip a week?
Yep. The lack of thinking skills on here today!
