To expect my windows to be clean?

Our windows were dirty so I put a post on fb asking for a good window cleaner. I found one instantly - he was literally round the corner.

He came and gave us a quote - £30 for an old four bed Victorian semi. This included the conservatory which is big at around 20ft long. We thought this was really reasonable so said go ahead. (We're in the North)

Anyhow, he came and did half the house and said it was proving quite difficult as the windows were original and some of the paint was peeling. I said don't worry about that just go for it. He then said it would take much longer than he thought and if it was ok with me would £60 be ok. I said fine (he'd been there an hour or so already) He also said that it would take a couple of cleans before they were fully clean.

Anyhow....

They're all water spotty (he was making much of the fact that he used pure ionised water so this didn't happen) and he hasn't even done my daughters window.

I want him to come back - but AIBU?

£60?! Bloody hell.

We have 7 front windows, all with individual panes. £8.50 for the lot and the chap is here for about 15 minutes, and they're spotless.

Is this guy an actual window cleaner by trade? Sounds dodgy to me!

For a three story town house we paid £8.50 two years back (Once a month) for what I considered a half assed job. Then the cheeky sod said I didn't pay him when I had. He later realised but didn't apologize and said, "so when should I come back?" I didn't reply. I can remember being at home and them not knowing and seeing the long stick with the brush at the end repeatedly tapping the window but not actually cleaning it! I'd be getting a few more quotes. I know it depends on geographical region but that does sound somewhat steep.

There was another cf window cleaner thread earlier this week .
YANBU you paid him for a service and he hasn’t done it properly . Maybe next time look for a proper person with a business and proper reviews . I guess loads of ppl think they can set up with just a bucket and some water .

£60 !!!
We are Midlands and a four bed house is £10.50 a big conservatory would be about £5 extra.
Ask him to come back, if not I would post about him on FB ..total rip off merchant .
Unfortunately during lockdown lots of people have set up in business without having a clue what they are doing.
Eg: painters and decorators, people selling food online with absolutely no idea about hygiene etc

Whaaaat?! Large 4 bed in North West (15 windows, 3 doors and 3 patio doors)- £12 once a month.

I'd cut your losses and find someone else.

daisypond · 04/04/2021 09:11

Well, 60 quid is very cheap where I live. Which is why I never have mine cleaned.

We're in a 5 bed victorian semi (24 large sash windows and a big conservatory) in the N and pay £20 for window cleaning once a month
One time the windows were a little bit water streaked and he apologised before he left and said he'd be back the next day to do it again because clearly the water was contaminated.
Find someone else - ask friends and neighbours who does theirs.
