The mysterious cut and fractured finger

Hello you lovely net full of vipers... I have a mystery (well 2 mysteries) for you to solve.

  1. Aibu to think that if you fractured your finger you would know how you did it?
  1. This ones going to need a diagram...(it will follow) how would one get a cut on the underside of their leg that ran from one side of the leg to the other just about 4 inches above the back of the knee... so imagine someone standing up with their back to you, the scratch/cut would run horizontally across the width of their leg... not actually a cut but a large deep scratch about 2-4mm thick that's not directly straight... bicycle injury apparently but I'm not seeing it

Does this person have diabetes, perhaps? Peripheral neuropathy could explain lack of feeling.

JackieTheFart · 04/04/2021 01:00

Well - I’ve currently got a broken finger and it hasn’t hurt at all. Haven’t even needed so much as a paracetamol! I knew it was broken because I couldn’t straighten it.

It’s a hammer fracture of my ring finger if any medical professionals want to wade in as to why it’s completely pain free!

JackieTheFart · 04/04/2021 01:01

That doesn’t answer your question though does it. I can’t imagine I wouldn’t know how I fractured my finger as obviously hands are used all the time - I can more imagine getting a big scratch on the back of my leg and not being sure.

StillMedusa · 04/04/2021 01:04

DS2 broke a finger in two places...walking up stairs! It was only because I noticed it was a funny colour (purple) that we got it checked.
DS1 broke a bone in his foot stepping down a 10 inch soft play foam (he's an adult) Mildly sore and was shocked when it needed a cast!

It's easy to get breaks and scrapes and have no idea what happened!

JackieTheFart · 04/04/2021 01:06

Actually you’ve reminded me. When I was regaling my mum with the stupid story of How I Broke My Finger, she told me that when she saw a doctor about her foot, he asked her when she’d broken a toe and she honestly couldn’t tell him. She thought it might be from tripping up the patio but who knows?!

ShopTattsyrup · 04/04/2021 01:24

I have never knowingly broken a finger/toe (although probably have given how clumsy I am) but I am always covered in bruises and scrams I don't remember doing!

I currently have a approx 5cm long scabby cut down the side of my forearm from literally fuck knows what!

And I have definitely got bruises and cuts to the back of my lower thigh from various bikes .... I have a tendency to whack myself in the back of my leg with a bicycle pedal when standing at the lights/crossing etc.

SexyGiraffe · 04/04/2021 06:19

I once got a cut like that climbing over a metal fence. I was wasted and didn't realise until the next day. I have had other bruises that I've not known where they come from, but an actual fractured thumb? Seems a bit more significant!

ZaraW · 04/04/2021 06:25

I sprained my finger a couple of months ago, it was so painful. When reviewing the X Ray the doctor asked about my previous two fractures in the same finger. I had no idea I had previous injuries. So I guess it is possible.

Longdistance · 04/04/2021 06:33

I broke my tib and fib and knew I broke it as I heard it snap like a tree branch. Don’t know if breaking a finger would hurt?
Marks on the leg easily done by pedals or falling off bike.
Where’s this leading?

Soubriquet · 04/04/2021 06:34

I’ve heard of someone fracturing their collar bone whilst asleep...so an unknown fractured finger doesn’t alarm me

Same to the scratch. I could believe it was from a bike pedal

Suzi888 · 04/04/2021 06:36

My mum fractured a bone in her leg and didn’t find out until years later when she had an X-ray as she had broken another bone. She has lived with chronic pain most of her life.

yeOldeTrout · 04/04/2021 06:56

Bikes have lots of sharp sticky-out parts, that one is easy.

Fracture: drunk.

Fall off of bike (while drunk) would also explain all.

One morning my downstairs neighbour woke me asking for a bit of "help". He badly broke his ankle the night before but had almost no memory of the event, except walking home blind drunk on the bad leg.

junebirthdaygirl · 04/04/2021 08:53

My sister broke her ankle badly and after the cray the doctor said..l see it's not your first break. She has no knowledge of another break! She is very hardy though with a high pain threshold. But she works on her feet all day and never knew she had a fracture.

cochineal7 · 04/04/2021 09:24

It is possible not to feel a fracture. I had a fractured foot and unless I tried to stand on it I could not feel it as such.

toocold54 · 04/04/2021 14:50

Where’s this leading?

I feel it is leading to OPs partner having these injuries and them not believing them but I’m not sure why you wouldn’t believe them.

NotOnMute · 04/04/2021 15:12

My dd played tennis for weeks on a fractured elbow. She said hurt afterwards, but I figured if she could play tennis it couldn’t be broken. Was embarrassing at A&E, when asked when she’d broken it...

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 04/04/2021 15:27

I fractured my foot and didn't realise it. I just thought I'd sprained my ankle when in reality I'd broken 1 metatarsal, fractured 2 more and fractured my ankle. I walked round on it for almost 4 weeks before I got it looked at by the doctor. I can't say the pain was ever excruciating more just a minor irritation.

My DB fractured his finger and had no idea how. He must have been about 15/16. He went away with his friend and friends parents for a week camping in France. Couple of weeks later was playing his school rugby game, his hand got stamped on somehow. He was in excruciating pain and sent off for Xrays which discovered a couple of week old fracture of his finger and just bruising of his finger where they'd been crushed by the studs!

BrimFullOfAsher · 04/04/2021 17:47

Any sign of anymore info yet?

skiclothes · 04/04/2021 17:50

I broke my arm once and didn’t go to hospital for 3 days because the first aider where I did it said I had just jarred it so I think both are entirely plausible!
