Whilst I completely agree with the concern being shown an awful lot if posters clearly haven't read the actual facts around the case and are making a number if inaccurate leaps.
So for those concerned...
He isn't working as a social worker and hasn't been since 2016.
He did lose his job as a social worker in 2016 when this happened.
There have been HUGE delays at the social work regulatory body in having final hearings. This happened quite a few years ago. He hasn't been working as a social worker during this time.
He was in his own home. Presumably with two children/teenagers known to him personally upstairs. He wasn't in a residential setting and the children involved were not service users.
Not all social workers work with children as part of their job.
Not all registered social workers actually work as social workers, lots of people hold and maintain their registration but don't use it.
The child did make a complaint to the police a year after the incident. It went all the way to court despite the time elapsed. It was taken seriously.
When the child made the complaint to the police and he was charged he lost his job.
I don't know why SWE have decided to make it only a years suspension on his registration, I assume they believe the risk to be minimal because he isn't working as a social worker currently. they are a new regulatory body and the previous one was heavily criticised for being too punitive.
