Want to get away from busy Devon

Live on the coast in a beautiful very popular holiday destination that is already fully booked for the summer (which is great for our local economy!) but after last summer it was just so busy, this year we want to get away to somewhere quiet. Thing is, everything I look for in a holiday is what we have on our doorstep, so where else can we go in the U.K.? Never holiday’ed in the U.K. before! DC 10 and a newborn.
Apparently we can rent our house out for £3k a week?! That’s ridiculous! But we can’t as we have a sweet old cat!
AIBU to want the beach to myself again?! 😂

It's already heaving in the Yorkshire Dale villages, @Quaagers**

Sad Probably going to be like that everywhere in the UK this year tbf

I understand OP. We live in a Cornish seaside village and until last year summers were bearable. Last summer wasn’t.

The volume of people and cars was way way over capacity. The behaviour and litter was foul.

We did a daily evening beach clean walk once all the day trippers and holidaymakers left the beach each day. We weren’t the only ones.

We didn’t go out during the day. Everywhere was too busy. It was like we stayed in lockdown through the whole summer! Appreciate we could have gone out but it was packed and hostile pretty much everywhere round here.

I hope it’s not like that again this summer. I can’t imagine it was fun for holidaymakers either.

My thoughts exactly! Never seen it so bad in April.

I completely get you OP. I live in Cornwall and it can be frustrating having lovely areas but then being too busy to visit when it’s nice weather but I do usually enjoy the happy holiday makers and of course they are great financially but last year it was insane and I am dreading it this year.
I am trying hard to distance from people but it’s going to be impossible this year. I’m quite surprised that they opened hotels etc as they know everyone from all over are going to congregate and then spread the virus even further.

It’s the poo and the shouting that makes it so hard. Bags of human shit left in every lay-by and the rubbish. We’ve been stuck at home too. Tourists come for a week, then go home. What they leave behind takes ages to clear and it’s really NOT fun. Why do you expect locals to lie about the impact on them?

This year I'm only booking places with parking, that are detached and have own garden. Non are by coast as too expensive with those criteria. Then the worst that happens is that i dont leave. I usually get tesco delivery on first day. I book national places in advance. Both bookings £700 a week for 3 bedrooms.

Snowdonia is my very favourite place in the UK. Llanberis is wonderful.
