To think he was too close for comfort?

Maybe this is my fault as it's nearly been a decade since I had my eyes tested. I decided since I've started driving to check my prescription. I usually do not go anywhere and am trying to be as careful as possible ( just had baby, been told I was vulnerable) but since covid cases have been low recently I thought it was now or never to go. However they had no windows/doors open. A man was seeing the optician before me and had no mask on. The appointment went over by 20 minutes. When I finally got seen I was asked to remove my mask to do the tests, and then had the optician literally up to my eyeball breathing the same air as me. I wanted to run out of there. I was allowed to take my mask off to try frames. The whole situation screamed unsafe to me. Now I'm worried I should have cancelled the appointment. I read up on the boots website before going and they went on about all the safety measures they had in place but it definitely felt like a different story when I got there. Has anyone else been, was this also the case?

My mum has missed her last optician appt due to this. I’m still going to mine.

I mean, she cancelled.

I'm not sure what else you expect the optician to do. ....not do a good job?

The story about the man before you with no mask is completely irrelevant.

@Mylovelyhorsee no it's called being told your vulnerable and have to sheild. Also it's called just giving birth to a newborn and not ever getting the chance to.

How does a newborn stop you from leaving the house?

I had one at Boots about eight weeks ago and I’m sure we both had masks on the whole time. I definitely did.

JackieTheFart · 02/04/2021 21:59

That’s like the exact opposite of the experience I had in Boots opticians Confused. Face mask and a shield for the optician and I was not asked to remove mine at all. Same with the other optician who tested my children.

JackieTheFart · 02/04/2021 22:00

Sorry not to say that you might not have felt it was too close. You should have said you weren’t comfortable.

zaffa · 02/04/2021 22:04

That sounds mad. At my optician you have to wait for entry (not without an appointment) a d wear a mask the entire time, including when trying on frames (which makes purchasing of frames very difficult!) optician wore a face shield and a mask most of the time; I can't recall if he removed the face shield for the up close eye inspecting (I was originally there because DD scratched my eye and he had to locate the scratch). I was directed to the sanitising station when I arrived and left and any frames tried on had to be placed to one side for decontamination for a set period of time and cleaning.
Max numbers of people in store were strictly adhered to as well.

Agree you should have both been wearing masks, it’s not the dentists!
I took DD to the dentist recently for her first check up and that too was done very professionally. Obviously I wore a mask (she is only 16 months so can't attend alone) and the dentist and assistant did, but again we had temps taken on entry, directed to hand washing, everything cleaned down with ample time between appointments, all us parents queued up outside in the Cold as waiting rooms shut and a one way system through out the clinic. Loos etc shut and absolutely minimal contact. I know I would have been mask free had I been the patient but the dentist was well kitted out with shield and mask and other PPE.
