Struggling to sleep and just went on The Sun (I know, you don't even have to say it) to read a bit of rubbish. To my surprise there's a massive spoiler on there about the ending of a show (aired tonight) that I've watched for years and was looking forwards to watching tomorrow when I have time, as I couldn't tonight due to work and housework etc.

AIBU here? Can't we have a few days before it gets plastered all over the internet, or are we really meant to ban ourselves from the internet until we've been able to catch up on shows unless we want it ruined?! Angry

I'm probably being unreasonable to be fair, but I'm really upset! I was going to settle in with a cup of tea tomorrow and enjoy the last episode but now I know what's going to happen, so while I will watch it, it's just a whole load of meh!

I might sue for emotional distress.

And now I will try to cry myself to sleep.

YABU. It’s not a spoiler, it’s already been aired and is fair game.

If you still haven’t watched it then that’s on you to avoid the radio/tv news/the tabloids. And tbh if you’re a tabloid reader then this won’t be the first time they’ve talked about the happenings on some crap tv show so you will have seen and read that kind of thing before but it won’t have mattered to you then because you weren’t anticipating it.

Chanjer · 30/03/2021 08:28

probably needs to ask themselves why.

Part of what makes a story interesting is the way it's arranged? Hmm

StillCoughingandLaughing · 30/03/2021 08:34

It’s entirely your own fault. The media isn’t planned around when Susan from Bromley gets home from work or decides she has time to sit down and watch something ‘properly’. You want to avoid spoilers? It’s in your hands.

Itstheprinciple · 30/03/2021 08:35

Unforgotten though...that was a shocker.

PuppyMonkey · 30/03/2021 08:40

I once got told off on a discussion under an article in The Guardian for mentioning something that happens in the film Ben Hur. Which was made in 1959. Grin

UserEleventyNine · 30/03/2021 08:48

People complained when some journalist revealed that Elizabeth marries Darcy. That might have been a spoiler 200 years ago! And for anyone familiar with the romance genre, it was fairly obvious from the start anyway.

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 30/03/2021 08:53

To be fair, I think the complaint was that the Radio Times had Lizzy and Darcy’s wedding as their front cover picture. Back in the day when the RT was front and centre in every newsagent it’s the most unavoidable “spoiler” you could ever think of. But yes, not exactly unpredictable.

FlippingSun · 30/03/2021 16:01

I've had some time to think about it and have decided that I'm not unreasonable at all Grin they really don't need to put
something like that in the headline, it's completely unnecessary.

And I don't think it's fair game at all just because it's been aired to be honest. Tabloids can be arseholes if they want, but I would never go into the kitchen at work and start announcing what happened on Line of duty, I would ask if everyone in there who wanted to see it had seen it first out of respect. Wouldn't everyone?

It was indeed unforgotten.

Derailing slightly - is Unforgotten good? Thinking of watching it and so far unspoilered....

Thank you! Might start it tonight. Did a similar thing with Broadchurch, watched it ages after everyone else and can't believe we managed to avoid learning the ending.

Yes it’s really good. You can watch this season as a stand alone but you’d be better off watching it from the beginning on Netflix. Each season works on its own though, not like Line Of Duty where you need your own pin up wall to try to keep track of who everyone is!

YABVU to read the S*n though.

Wouldn't everyone? Out of respect? Seriously? It’s a television show which has already been aired. It’s not like readin gin the papers that you’ve heard that this or that ending is about to happen, it already has.

Get a grip.

Fiercestcalm · 30/03/2021 16:16

To be fair though, it’s impossible to avoid the internet if like us, you are saving up a series like Line of Duty and it’s splashed everywhere. DH has early onset dementia and loves these programmes but cannot do weekly instalments any longer. The soaps manage to keep their storyline’s fairly contained. It’s not just revolting tabloids but other discussions forums etc... and for what it’s worth I had ‘ got hold’ of Unforgotten and was going to watch later and yes the ending has been ruined by a reddit thread.

We have to ‘acquire’ tv because ridiculous UK channels refuse to offer a subscription service for those of us who live abroad, so storing up a series for it then to be spoiled is very irritating.

NurseButtercup · 30/03/2021 16:16

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

I still haven't watched Broadchurch and I don't know the storyline. I'm saving this TV show for a very very rainy day!

LoL

You will definitely enjoy Unforgotten.

FlippingSun · 30/03/2021 16:17

@HeartsAndClubs

I'll think about it and get back to you.

I have been avoiding everything to do with the ending of Unforgotten, then I read a news article about something completely unrelated and the first comment underneath was someone who had written "yeh but that unforgotten ending though' and then proceeded to write what happened. Just why?!!
I feel a humongous amount of rage towards that person AngryGrin

tillytoodles1 · 30/03/2021 16:35

I'm originally from Liverpool so I would never read The Scum.

Oh, you have to watch it! Olivia Colman is reason enough.

@LadyCatStark DH will insist on starting from the beginning, so I think I'm going to resign myself to just going lalalala for a while every time I see a story about it.

We totally check with everyone when we’re chatting about TV shows who’s caught up and who isn’t so we don’t go wrecking it for others yes, out of respect. You must work with some cunts.
FlippingSun · 30/03/2021 20:15

Well that was very upsetting to watch Sad and made it very different when you knew exactly what was coming. Bastards.
