To take DC2 to DC1s school drop off even though he has shingles?

You can't catch shingles unless you havent had chicken pox and even then you need direct access with the fluid from the blisters in order to catch CP from the shingles. If he was school age he would be allowed to go in if the rash was covered (the rash would be covered as its on his back). AIBU to take him to drop DC1 to school? Dont want to be irresponsible.

If it's covered and you're only dropping off then bringing him back home, you'll be okay- as long as he's comfortable. Shingles is horrendously painful.

Do you have a buggy with rain cover? That always seemed to be the 'trick' when mine were younger.
Alternatively, to g school and ask if you can drop off late with a non Covid infectious sibling

Are you sure it's shingles? He's very young to have that. I remember my DD having it for the 1st time at age 11. The GP (when I spoke to him on the phone following a call from the school nurse) said she was too young to have it. Turned out she did have it and he had to eat his words but I've never heard of a 3 year old getting it. But if it is and the spots aren't visible/accessible on the school run and you've washed your hands thoroughly after touching the spots then i can't see any problems with taking him on the school run. (DD still went to school with hers)

Are you sure it’s shingles? Some people can get chickenpox more than once. I would behave as if it is chickenpox. Buggy with a rain cover sounds like a good idea.

Ds went to school with shingles. Just keep him covered and apart.

Are you sure it's shingles? My DD had chicken pox twice (Gp confirmed)

ThereforeIAm · 29/03/2021 09:44

Fuzzyduck21 · 29/03/2021 10:07

Dd had shingles when she was 1. It's horrible.

I would contact the school and see if you can drop off a little earlier or a little later.

dementedpixie · 29/03/2021 10:09

My ds had shingles age 3. He had chicken pox age 6months and apparently if you get it under 1 year you have more chance at having childhood shingles

He was also misdiagnosed at first as having eczema so was still attending nursery. Never seemed to pass on chickenpox as the rash was covered on his torso
