Would you still use this oven?

Hoping for someone who knows ovens Blush
Not sure if helpful - it's an AEG 6 hob model from at least 10 years ago.
They don't make it anymore and you can't get spares for it, we tried a while ago as our spit roast broke and contacted AEG directly and they said they do not have any parts whatsoever for that model in anymore and it's all discontinued.

Today whilst it was heating up our interior glass shattered into a million pieces out of the blue.
There are (or were) 3 layers/separate sheets of glass on the door and obviously one is gone now.

We are potentially moving within the next 5months and there's an integrated oven already there, things are quite tight ATM and we would really prefer not to have to fork out £££ on a new glass or a brand new oven if we can't get compatible replacement glass.

Would you say the oven is still safe to use with the 2 sheets of glass and could tie us over for the next 4-5months or would you leave well alone and try and fix it/replace?

I wouldn't.

In my old cooker I had two lots of glass and took one out to clean and dropped it and cracked. I used the oven still. We were planning a new cooker a few months later. It was fine. I dont think it got as hot though.

I suppose the difference with mine though it didnt crack when oven was on.

If it's a sheet of glass which slots into the door, I don't see why you shouldn't just get a replacement, from a glass merchant if necessary, making sure it's the proper heat resistant stuff of course.

It may work ie heat up and cook but not keep its heat in . That would make it inefficient especially at high temps . Can you limp by with a hob and maybe buy a cheap slow cooker ? It’s nearly summer

TillyTopper · 28/03/2021 20:54

I wouldn't use it, the next layer might shatter. Could you use hob and microwave to get by? Lighten the load with the odd takeaway as that would be cheaper than an oven.

I wouldn't. Gumtree for a second hand one to tide you over?

DahliaMacNamara · 28/03/2021 20:58

Mini ovens aren't that expensive. Would one of those tide you over?

Imafraidimnotmyself · 28/03/2021 21:04

My DH works in white good (not in repairs so not professional advice!) He said he wouldn't touch it, if one of the heat resistant glass panels has shattered then the others are likely to go. He also said he wouldn't try and replace. Could you get a cheap second hand one to tide you over?
