To keep thinking about the stray I took to a shelter?

Just that really. I took a stray in in my area and I took them to a local rescue. I spent all last night with her and let her sleep in my room. She followed me everywhere and today I felt so awful giving her over to the vet. Couldn’t keep her due to already having a cat who likes to be alone. I left a donation to pay for her vet bill but I keep thinking about her all on her own in the cage overnight at the vet missing me and thinking I tricked her into going. I guess I just want some reassurance Sad

Aw bless you. You did the right thing. I’m sure the stray will find a great home once it’s been vet checked etc.

littlepattilou · 27/03/2021 20:53

Do you want her back???

Act fast if you do! Contact the shelter.

If not, don't worry, your doggo you kindly looked after will find a lovely home. Smile

bellabride · 27/03/2021 20:55

Are you sure your cat couldn't accept her?
As PP says, you need to act quickly.

minipie · 27/03/2021 20:56

Ah love. You’ve done brilliantly. She’s clearly a friendly cat who just wanted a bit of nice treatment and she’ll find a new home very quickly - she’ll make someone a very happy cat slave. You couldn’t have kept her without upsetting your own cat so this is the best thing all round. Big hug.

AWamBamBoom · 27/03/2021 20:59

You saved her and have given her the chance of a better healthier life. There should be more people like you in the world

Strawberryfelineforever · 27/03/2021 20:59

I can’t have her as I currently live with my parents and both they and my cat won’t accept another unfortunately. The rescue told me they have loads of people waiting for cats especially like her as she is young and very friendly. It’s more a feeling of guilt that she trusted me and I brought her to the vet and left her without her knowing I was going to leave her Sad I just want her to have the best life and never know suffering again, praying she goes to a lovely home.

Can I just ask, how can you tell it's a stray cat?

littlepattilou · 27/03/2021 21:03

@Strawberryfelineforever

SORRY, she is a CAT. I didn't read the OP properly GRRRR Angry

The rest of my post still stands. Smile

Cats are a kind of 'if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with' kind of creature.

She will find a lovely home soon, and will be just as happy as she was with you @Strawberryfelineforever Smile

thecatneuterer · 27/03/2021 21:05

She'll be fine. All rescues are homing well at the moment, particularly as kitten season hasn't yet got into full swing. She'll be spayed, vaccinated and chipped and will find a lovely home very soon. You did a lovely thing.

Strawberryfelineforever · 27/03/2021 21:06

@somanysocks she was under my shed for days before I took her in. I thought she would go home if she had one but she never did. When it started raining heavily I couldn’t leave her out there. I live in a place where everyone knows each other, put up social media posts and nobody claimed her so I thought the best thing to do was let the rescue take it from there. If she turned out to be someone’s cat then I would contact the rescue to get them reunited of course ❤️

She sounds like a super sweet girl and will get a lovely home and make her next owners very happy.
You did a fab thing.

Somanysocks · 27/03/2021 21:12

Oh ok, (I'm a dog person) there are a couple of cats round my way that would spend time in my house if I let them, but know they're not stray just cheeky.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 27/03/2021 21:12

If you want to take her then do it. Cats almost always shake down and live together happily, even if that means carving out their niches in the same house and avoiding each other.

But if you don't then you have no reason to feel guilty. One of mine is a stray who ended up in a rescue after a woman like you called in, and we think of her SO fondly for helping him. He'll be pampered beyond belief for the rest of his days.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 27/03/2021 21:13

Sorry just read that your parents would allow you to take her, so ignore the first paragraph of my post!

Spandang · 27/03/2021 21:15

You haven’t tricked her, you’ve given her a chance at a lovely life with people who will love her. That’s the best thing in the circumstances. It is really hard, and cats are king at making you feel guilty. It might be hard, but it’s the right thing Smile

PassMeTheWotsits · 27/03/2021 21:28

You did the right thing. I found a kitten once and took him to the rescue centre, I would have loved to keep him, but my cat is very much not a fan of other cats so it was just a no go. I kept in touch with the rescue centre and he got adopted very quickly ☺️

milinhas · 27/03/2021 21:32

So many people are looking for a cat to love this year and rescues are looking for great homes - she’ll be safe and looked after and happy. You did her a massive favour!

ThatQuietOne · 27/03/2021 21:51

We have rescue cats and absolutely adore them. They are a big part of our family and so well loved and cared for. I’m sure your stray will also find a lovely home - you’ve done a good thing for her 💐.

Strawberryfelineforever · 27/03/2021 22:01

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I hope she has everything and more ❤️

My first cat I had as an adult in my own home (a one bed flat) was a gorgeous black and white cat, 3 years old. She was my faithful companion through marriage and two house moves and then adoption of DD1.

She developed a lot of health problems and had to be PTS at 13. I really missed her but we had a lot of great times together.

I’m sure this lovely cat will find a loving home. Rescues are good at that. But I can well understand how he won your heart. Flowers
