AIBU?

to ask for Spa Weekend Recommendations for a young couple

Hi All,

This will be our first spa trip. I wish to go for a weekend of good food (not tiny portion pretentious dining or health food), pools, relaxing and nice accommodation.

As its our first trip and I am convincing my partner (who is tentatively agreeing) - I really need to find the right spa first time as otherwise I will never be able to convince him again :)

One issue I am worried about is the atmosphere for want of a better word. He really really does not react well to faux snobbiness where normal people are pretending to be rich and acting obnoxiously (we have had this in some holiday venues before - hard to describe I hope you get what I mean).

Anyone have any suggestions for a great spa where he would feel comfortable?

Ragdale Hall for sure. It's truly amazing, there's a new cocktail bar and the food is really lovely. I have gone with my DH several times and highly recommend it.

Yes the food at Ragdale is ok. I prefer the food at Eden hall. But the pools aren't as good as Ragdale.

Don't bother with Aqua Sana. It's nice but not as nice as Ragdale etc.

Ragdale is lovely but it is VERY female dominated. I know most spas are but Ragdale is more so than any other I've ever been to. The men generally look quite uncomfortable and self conscious in my experience

@mixedfeelsaboutthispl

Following with interest because I love a good spa, but this part of your op:

He really really does not react well to faux snobbiness where normal people are pretending to be rich and acting obnoxiously (we have had this in some holiday venues before - hard to describe I hope you get what I mean).

Am curious about...what does this mean? Am actually so confused, what do you mean normal people acting rich? Sorry am not trying to be obtuse am just actually wondering what sort of place would be like this?

Think people with comedy eyebrows (and that's just the blokes) pouting at their phones with bottles of champagne artfully arranged in shot.

All about showing off living their best life rather than having a relaxing time.

I’m not sure the ragdale will suit your dh. The food was ok but not as good as I’d hoped.

And breakfast was rubbish-cold options served to your room-no cooked breakfast!

But pools at ragdale are fab.

Oh dear ouch - Thats ragdale out then.

Right. My second leaning is now looking Modershall. There are so many lovely ones here but trying to view this through DPs eyes. He very much appreciates good landscaping so plus points there, and we have bikes, tennis and a woodland walk if he looses the will to live.

Drinks delivered to the hottub may keep him entertained though :)

And food does look amazing! DP will be pleased with the Chicken Milenase, Lamp Rump, the Steaks and they look to have a proper cooked breakfast.

Oooo :)

I’ve got a completely different suggestion - have a look at Thornton Hall in Wirral ........ nice pool, hot tubs good food with both a posh restaurant and a less posh one. The treatments I’ve had there have always been excellent.
Wirral might not be everyone’s first choice for a weekend spa break but Thornton Hall is only a 15 minute drive from Ness Botanical Gardens and there is plenty of landscaping there.

Thanks milly

That does look lovely.

I think that might be a bit too far though but gave me a brilliant idea to look up nearby gardens and found Trentham Gardens is near Moddershall :)

So I am sold. Now to convincing DP to commit...
