Cleaner issue - help

Besswess88 · 27/03/2021 13:28

I have had a cleaner for 2 months.

I replaced my steam mop the night before he first day.

No issues (other than her randomly asking us to replace our brand new shark vacuum cleaner).

She messaged me after she had been this week saying the steam mop isn’t working and can we take it back to the shop to replace it.

On closer investigation the mop has actually had a part snapped off - so obviously I can’t take it back.

I have messaged her saying I am unable to take it back as the plastic has been snapped off.

WTF do I do? She works for herself I don’t want things to get awkward but DH is going ballistic saying he wants me to sack her.

Ask her if her insurance covers your broken item.

Is she the only one who uses it?

Bookaholic73 · 27/03/2021 13:33

Just ask her if her PLI would cover the expense.

I wouldn’t automatically assume she had broken it.
I was a cleaner for years, and broke a few items here and there (by accident obviously). The people I cleaned for never asked me to pay or claim on my insurance, as they are really lovely and approachable people.

Yeah she is the only person who has used it.

Well if she says she isn't insured (cleaner here and I am not).. then send her the link to where she can get a replacement... I would fully expect to replace a brand new item if i broke it... If she won't then let her go. Most cleaners work via recommendations.. She won't get one...

Is it still usable? The handle snapped off my steam mop quite quickly - I was maybe a bit careless but it was also flimsy stop a bit of both. It was still usable, I just had to stoop a bit when using it. Tell her to do that and if she still kicks off I think you need to part ways.

if the mop has broken after two months, won't it still be under guarantee - it's something you'd expect to be fairly robust.

That aside, if you don't like her or it's simply not working out, give her notice & move on.

If the plastic thing snapped off and makes it unusable after such a short time I would be taking it up with the company not the cleaner. Also if my husband was going "ballistic" and suggesting I sacked someone over this, I'd be telling him to cool his jets.

She should be able to claim on her insurance.

Please tell me she has insurance?
