Cancelled PGL

AIBU to complain to the school about my Year 6 child's PGL residential trip for the end of May being cancelled? As far as I was aware the guidance on school trips/residentials is due to be published at Easter. Are the school right to cancel it prematurely? We will also lose the deposit...

TBH given the way that teachers have been treated and spoken about during this pandemic by a fairly sizeable minority of parents and wider society in general, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the goodwill and unpaid work that goes into these trips is just something that staff aren't prepared to do anymore, ever.

This. Quite frankly. Some parents attitudes have been appalling. Media attitudes have been appalling. Why work for free for people who are not only very ungrateful, but also vocally nasty?

Yabu to expect schools to do any residential trips at the moment.

YABU to complain. The only thing where I would possibly criticise the school is that they did not cancel cfour weeks ago when the so-called roadmap was announced. The dates announced are the earliest, and so a delay to the 17th May changes though unlikely could occur.

I also expect that many parents will not have had their first vaccine and so a residential trip would increase the possibility of transmission from children who catch the virus asymptomatically.

Of course a sensible government that cared for teachers and education with a competent Secretary of State would have said no residential trips for schools until after the summer.

We have just had a letter from school asking parents to confirm that they want their children to attend Pgl on 17th May. D3cision needed by 20th April so they can see if trip viable and negotiate for refunds. Pgl have ssid they hope to refund any patents who pull out!! Hope?? That's got to be a joke

We have just been told today that it IS going ahead. They are due to go in the last week of June when restrictions are due to have ended, so I'm immensely grateful to the amazing staff who have obviously agreed to go, and the PGL team who are keen to get the kids back to their centres!
