The Alba party is only standing for list votes - as a pp said this may actually strengthen the independence vote by reducing the number of 2nd votes that go to other parties which typically benefit from the regional votes (list). In the last Holyrood ejections the SNP only got 4 list MSPs on nearly a million votes - as the regional vote dilutes the FPTP process. By contrast Cons got 24 and Labour 21 seats on significantly lower numbers of votes 520k and 435k respectively.

Not that I’d vote for him under any circumstances.

I’m waiting to see what happens: who the candidates are, what the policies are. Right now, as a feminist in Scotland, I have no one to vote for.

As @celtiethree says, there will be little impact on the SNP vote. List votes are almost wasted on the SNP. What Alba might do is provide some badly needed challenge to the SNP in Holyrood.

The SNP have turned a blind eye to vile abuse of their female representatives. They have allowed groomer Derek Mackay to continue to draw his MSP salary. They have eroded women’s rights and will continue to do so. There is the ridiculous spouting from MPs and MSPs on social media that continues unchecked. All of this is allowed because there is no opposition. Perhaps Alba will bring that - but we need to know who else is involved. Salmond is the figurehead, he is not the driver behind Alba.
