To ask about vertigo and covid

I've been poorly with vertigo for the last week. I've never experienced it before. Came on suddenly overnight last week. Seems to get better throughout the day but not nice at night.

I was speaking to my sister who said that she had read a recent article saying covid has been connected to vertigo.

I'm wanting to ask if anyone else has had sudden on set vertigo and then tested positive? I'm just worried I've now been spreading it around at work/shop.

Have you tested positive for Covid? Have you any other symptoms?

Vertigo can be caused by thousands of different things and they haven’t ceased to exist due to Covid. I do worry about people putting everything down to Covid, as other things are being missed.

I’d phone a GP for sudden onset vertigo, just to get it checked.

Went to the gp who said I had an ear virus. So I just went on assuming it was that. Hadn't even considered covid as a reason until someone else had said it is a symptom. Now wondering if I should get tested?

I realise I probably come across as a bit stupid.

I think it’s likely the gp is correct. It’s crazy how people are attributing everything to Covid now.

I have intermittent vertigo. It's my hay-fever that has started it up again. It's like being on the sodding waltzers at the fairground. I would recommend.

  1. Getting your eyes tested, or remember to wear your reading glasses. Not wearing mine makes it worse.
  2. Stay hydrated,it keeps the pressure in the middle ear more stable
  3. Having a small glass or wine seemed to counteract it, though obviously not first thing.
  4. Menopause can bring on vertigo.
  5. Pilates and balance exercises.

I do feel for you, mine was horrendous last week.

Long before Covid l suffered from sudden onset of vertigo. Diagnosed with a virus..no name. It lingered for a short while and was diagnosed then with post viral fatigue..horrible feeling.
But l haven't heard of it being connected to Covid but new symptoms are being flagged all the time.
Probably best to get tested

Vertigo can be caused by a virus, viral vestibulitis. It can also be due to debris in the inner ear.
My DH had possible covid very early on, and since then I have had mild tinnitus and occasional vertigo, I do now wonder if I did have asymptomatic covid.

BriarsHollow · 26/03/2021 19:51

If they’ve already diagnosed an ear problem, it’s probably that. It can last for weeks. I’m not sure it would suddenly become COVID. I think too much is currently out down to COVID.

OP if you register with the ZOE app they’ll almost certainly invite you for a test if you log vertigo / dizziness. They’re trying to analyse all possible symptoms (to include or rule out).

MzHz · 26/03/2021 19:57

Have you tried travel sickness medication? They gave me that when I got labyrinthitus.

But we also were v dizzy both back in February last year when we thought we had had Covid (before it was known about) and identical symptoms immediately after our jabs

Try the medicine and see if that helps

Clackyheels · 26/03/2021 20:41

Thanks for your replies.

Yes taking the anti sickness tablets. Thanks I'll see how I go!

I was in a & e last night as my vertigo symptoms were horrific! The room didn't stop spinning all day, there was literally no let up at all.

Called 111 and they referred me.

Dr was good and thorough. Did bloods, tests the works and confirmed it was vertigo, never mentioned anything about Covid. Apparently vertigo can be bought on by stress, I think this is my problem.

Have now got a plan in place to increase meds accordingly.
