Holes in pre schooler jeans

Every month he goes through trousers, jeans and joggers. Part of me thinks they can be nursery trousers. But then I'd hate anyone to look at my child and think dirty/scruffy or not well cared for. Tried soo many different brands and had no joy. What do other people do?

I used to just sew them up.
DS2's pre-prep had joggers with reinforced knees!

Letshavesometea · 25/03/2021 20:45

People pay money for clothes with rips in them these days!

One of my 3 was like that from about age 2 til about 9 - he wore kids trousers from this workwear brand. They're indestructable. They make indestructable shoes too...

I tried to patch them and discovered I had to hand sew them because the legs were too narrow for my sewing machine. Argh!

Do you have someone who can supply you with a stream of almost dead clothing? My sister has had anything that survived DSs on the basis that most of it was decent but nothing more!

Honestly, those of us in nurseries won't judge. We're actually really happy when children come in in old, tatty clothes because they will get ruined with us anyway. There is nothing more nerve wracking than a child head to toe in expensive designer brands, wielding a paintbrush!

kowari · 25/03/2021 20:58

They're jeans, there are people who buy them with holes. In winter I would patch them but I wouldn't bother at nearly Easter. Cut them off when it warms up.

Iron on patches inside the knees!

SwanShaped · 25/03/2021 21:06

Yeah iron on patches on the inside. You could even do it before they get holes to reinforce them.

inmyslippers · 25/03/2021 21:08

Never thought to sew or iron on! Thank you will give that a go

My third sons starting nursery soon, and some of his clothes are about 6 years old and gone through both his brother's and they're still pristine! Denim dungarees from H&M and some tweed trousers from Sainsburys. But I've kept all the pilled, overwashed stuff for nursery, the messier they get the better imo!

SwanShaped · 26/03/2021 06:49

Iron on are great. Just be careful if you’re patching a hole, that you don’t accidentally iron it through the hole to the ironing board. I’ve done that before.

GrumpySausage · 26/03/2021 07:03

I second knee patches. My DS was/is a swine for this. New trousers would have holes within days.

Originally I'd use the least scruffy ones for nursery but then he'd pick at the hole and make it bigger. It was costing me a fortune in trousers.

So bought so iron on patches from ebay and away we went. They do different colours to 'match' as well. Lifesaver.
