Primary school normal or not
Running in corridors instead of being in class
Swearing at teacher
Same children removed from class daily
Fighting
Understaffed since covid
Promised pastoral care that then doesn't happen as staff off
10 percent off a class Sen
One Ta to a class of 10 percent Sen mostly add/ADHD diagnosed
Just wanted to get an idea of how schools are nowadays as seems very different from me going to school.
Any secondary school knowledge also would be appreciated.

Doesn't happen in my DCs school. Not in primary at least. SEN at the moment is a little girl who needs hearing aids in DSs class.

10% SEN is low/normal and a TA per class is actually quite good (they may be actually officially 1:1s).

The behaviour things are not normal, however I think you need to work out whether this is 1 or 2 children (which might be more normal - although I'd hope the school could get a better handle on their behaviour) or endemic across the whole school (which would be a real concern).

Do schools say how many children in a class have sen? I wouldn't have thought people would necessarily know how many there are?

It's published in the school information on the education gov.uk site. (obviously at a school level, so you wouldn't know how the affected children were distributed across the classes).

I've just looked at our local school and they have 16.3% with SEN support and the England average is 12.6%. And of course, that won't include children who are undiagnosed. So 10% SEN in a class would not be unusual.

That's a school not meeting the needs of their chikdren

I’m a teacher (despite/as well as my name)

Running in corridors instead of being in class

Not sure what is meant, children forgetting and running inside is normal (especially after lockdown!), being reminded to walk each time is normal. Children running around uncontrollably isn’t normal.

Swearing at teacher
Not normal

Same children removed from class daily
Common if not normal

Fighting
Depends what is meant by this. Disagreements are normal, occasionally pushing does happen. But punching isn’t normal.

Understaffed since covid
Normal Sad

Promised pastoral care that then doesn't happen as staff off
I hate to say normal, but we are struggling with this as no budget for supply Sad

10 percent off a class Sen
Very normal

One Ta to a class of 10 percent Sen mostly add/ADHD diagnosed
Very normal. Some schools have no TAs outside of early years and lunch cover.

Sounds like you are worried about your child. Best approach is to contact the school, focus your concerns about them and how they are finding situations difficult or are not thriving. If promised pastoral interventions aren’t happening they absolutely should be explaining why to you. I email to parents (I’m a SENDco) to apologise and give a brief explanation. Even if I can’t always magic up staff, I can at least have the courtesy to make parents aware that there was a situation beyond our control and we do intend to resume the intervention as soon as possible.
